Page 1 of Bench DVD Player KH 5777 (could be 6777) Advertised By Lidl for £37.99

Does anyone have any info on the e bench KH 5777 (could be 6777 - the pic isn`t very clear) DVD player being advertised by Lidl Supermarkets. It was on sale via Lidl last year for £69.99 and they flew out (I was going to buy one then but missed out as stocks are limited). Maybe if someone out there was able to get one last year they could answer the following questions for me.

* Is it any good?
* Is it region hackable? if so does anyone have the hack (couldn`t find any info)
* Will it play movies straight from Mpg rather than convert to VCD?


This machine goes on sale in Lidl supermarkets on Monday 15th December for £37.99 so would make an ideal Xmas gift for my daughter.

In answer to your questions:-

Point 1 - I dont know whether its any good or not, Im planning on queueing up for one myself tomorrow. If it isnt any good it will be going back.
Point 2 - Yes i is remote hakcabale, I managed to find the info via Google and used its translator tool to translate from German to English and it showed me a site which was also in German. The site is www.kompernass.com/display.html?section=support&subsection=faq&product=190&lang=en, the instructions to convert the DVD to region free is in English.

These are the instructions that are on the page.

You can change the country code setting of the DVD Player E-Bench KH 6777 by following the below steps:

1. Power on
2. open door
3. press no. 2812
4. a special menu pop up
5. 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2....9 for all region.

I got mine early by being nice to one of the Lidl staff!

1. Yes, it`s a belter! It has played everythig I`ve thown at it, including DVD-RWs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs. Picture quality is superb. It even comes with all the leads and a set of batteries.

2. The region hack published here works - I`ve just tried it. And you can even turn off the Macrovision from the same menu.

3. Dunno yet but hey! I`ll give it a go and report back.

For 38 quid it`s a steal; just go and buy it!

Hi there. I just got one of these DVD`s as well - I followed the instructions, and managed to set the DVD to play region 1 DVD`s by either choosing `1` or `9` in the hack details BUT - whilst it plays the DVD`s fine, the picture is in Black and White only - any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I`ve gone through the manual and cannot see anything. I`m wondering if I`m doing something wrong with the hack - ie, after entering the code, and getting to the menu and changing the region, what should I do then - have the DVD ready to play and just press `play` on the remote, or should I do something else - ie, press a different button. My Tv is a JVC one, and I`ve had it a few years. All the best, Kev.

Almost certainly your TV is not NTSC compatable - you might need to buy a newer one.

Well Im a happy bunny, I got to Lidl at 8.15am and was the first one there, so I thought well at least Ill get one, stood there flaming freezing until 9am, but by that time, there was a few people there, but luckily our Lidl had about 50 or 60 in stock, of both colours.

Anyway got it home, tried a VCD in it, worked fine, then hacked it, again tried The Omen (Region 1), worked fine and in colour, so the prob about black and white above is to do with the TV.

So Im happy bunny, cos this DVD player comes with a 3 year warranty too.

I had the same problem with the Black and white picture prob .I changed the tv format from `auto` to `pal` and it plays region 1 perfectly in colour. Great little sets .Bought 2 first on had to take back as wouldnt play all discs kept coming up bad disc swapped it and all ok now .
