Mission M73 or M74???

dvd_vicar (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 12th September 2002, 20:14

Anyone have any ideas on the relative merits of M73s at £105 (Empiredirect) or M74s at £210 (Richersounds)?
Many thanks in advance.

I have the M74 and have to say that they are an absolute dream. Worth getting I would say if you have a reasonable sized room and want a pair of speakers that pack enough bass to hold off on buying a sub for a while. But really it depends on what you are using them for , movie, music, and what other equipment u have. Hope this helps...

I`ve got M74s (plus M7C1 and M7DSs). I ran them without a sub for 6 months and they were (still are) very fine sounding speakers. They will deliver palpable LFE - not as good as with a sub, granted - but still noticeable.

I suspect the M73s would be in more need of a sub upfront, but not having auditioned them, I don`t really know.

Both speakers have reviewed well both for music and home cinema, so you pays yer money and takes yer choice!

I have pretty much the same as above, but the 77c1 as centre. All in all they do kick out enough bass and if u intend getting a sub then wait until u can afford a decent one. I settled for the above without a sub and was more than happy for about 6 months, then I bought a Yamaha yst 320 sub and the difference is quite immense but the sub was £300 so at the end of the day it is up to you.

I`d agree - save the difference towards a sub in the future....
