RE: Cheap Book Site?
If you`re looking for secondhand books, there`s nowhere better than abebooks:
www.abebooks.com/ (original)
www.abebooks.co.uk/ (UK site)

RE: Mission M71i`s or Wharf 8.1`s ? Or any other speakers
If you`re choosing between Mission and Wharfedale (and assuming you`ve auditioned them both and like the sound equally), then positioning may dictate the answer. Missions are recommended to stand around 18* from the walls (rear firing port), whereas Wharfedales can stand much closer (even right up to the wall).
RE: Scanning photos - how many dpi?
It depends what you`re going to use them for. If they`re only going to be viewed on a webpage, then around 80dpi is good enough (most monitors are around 76). If you`re going to print them, then 300dpi is probably adequate.
RE: Best way of getting traffic to a web site?
I haven`t paid anyone. I`m usually in the top 3 (out of "about 278,000") on google.

RE: Name that beard
I had the sound on.
Was that great ... or grate?
RE: Non-techie lady needs help with toshiba sd220e
If you get a b/w picture it means your TV is perfectly OK with the 60Hz NTSC signal. What you need to do is get hold of a fully wired (RGB) scart cable and connect it between yout dvd player and your RGB enabled scart on your TV (usually scart 1). Then set your dvd player to RGB for the picture.
RE: Anybody else recieve french language cover on their BOURNE from Play?
... Would there be an English only cover on the other side? ...
I don`t know - it`s quite common - the only way to find out is to open it and find out.
Unless somebody else already has?
RE: Anybody else recieve french language cover on their BOURNE from Play?
Have you tried taking the sleeve out and turning it over? Canadian sleeves are frequently double sided (French/English).

RE: Can anybody recommend a fairly decent multiregion player for under £100?
Richer`s website - http://www.richersounds.co.uk - were listing the Toshiba SD220E for £100 yesterday. Optical & co-ax out, multiregion & RCE.
RE: Multichannel music outlets
http://www.play.com - click on the music tab, then the SACD or DVD-A tabs.
RE: Anyone any experience with Amazon ?
It took around 10 days when I returned a faulty DVD player, so you may just have to hang on in there!
RE: Favourite Home Theatre Demo Scene
Lobby scene in The Matrix.

RE: DVD release dates
R2 Project has dates here: http://www.r2-dvd.org/DBDirect.jsp?SQL=UPCOMING
RE: playing Region 1 (NTSC) on Region 2 Player
... or set it to output RGB and use a fully wired (i.e. RGB wired) SCART cable into an RGB enabled SCART socket on your TV.

RE: Mission M7c1 and M7ds crossover query, please advise.
The -3dB frequency response for the M7C1 and M7DS is 75Hz - 20kHz. So, 80Hz sounds like a good option. These speakers are rated to 100W, so they`ll be fine.
RE: How would you feel if you could only watch a DVD once? discuss
Errm, I don`t own a Scan. However, there is a Mrs Neon and lots of little Neons, so there is no time :(.
RE: Follow the link, must watch, VERY, VERY FUNNY!!!!!!!
That is VERY funny!
RE: How would you feel if you could only watch a DVD once? discuss
I`ve got about 40 dvds I haven`t even watched once!
RE: Toshiba SD210E Problem
It may be your TV. The Tosh outputs true NTSC to the US standard. A lot of other makes of player output NTSC either as PAL (the UK standard) or at PAL frame rates. Both these options allow a lot of older TVs to work with NTSC dvds.
RE: Play are
Play posted mine on Friday, so hopefully Monday / Tuesday I`ll be getting square eyes. Well, OK, 2.35:1 eyes.
RE: Black & white picture on Region 1 discs
For a thread explaining NTSC 4.4, see here: http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=124096&Type=1
If your Grundig has a true NTSC mode, you should use that. It looks as though your player is outputting true NTSC, which is at odds with how you`ve got your TV set up (it won`t be able to "see" the colour subcarrier).
Failing that, are you sure your player won`t output RGB? A fully wired (RGB) scart cable to an RGB scart connector on your TV is the only other way you`ll get colour on NTSC.
RE: Equipment for playing dts
Plus - your existing player may not be DTS compatible. If the DTS logo is on it somewhere, then it will be. If not, you`ll need to check the documentation. But Richard`s right - don`t invest in extra equipment unless you want to invest in extra equipment - DTS alone is probably not reason enough.
RE: Ohms, a question.
It really (really, really) makes no difference unless you intend running your amp at full volume all the time on a really (really, really) loud movie.
Even then it`ll probably make no difference.
If you must have an answer, go for the 4 ohm setting.
I`m more than happy to explain the logic behind all the above (in fact I`ve done it on a thread somewhere on this site). I should warn you that in the past when I`ve done that it`s killed the thread stone dead. So, this time I`m holding back to see if someone else wants to join in :)
RE: Film reference site
Support your local mirror (or it might go away): http://uk.imdb.com
RE: pop-up complaint, (again, sorry)
This is less annoying than the freeserve popup was. Firstly it`s technically quite cool and more importantly clicking close does seem to keep it away (at least for quite a while).
RE: DD 5.1 speakers
Not sure what you`re asking for - speakers, decoder or system?
RE: Mission M7DS rear speakers - conflicting advice
I like mine. They will go loud, they don`t rattle or distort. There`s nothing wrong with plastic for speaker surrounds - high density, high damping factor, can be moulded to a more acoustically satisfactory shape. And yes, I too prefer real wood, but these are great speakers.
