I want a player for under £200 - which one???? help!!!!

stuey c (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 5th December 2000, 19:02

I am looking at the Wharfdale but this doesn`t have DTS. DOes this matter? I`m not thinking of connecting up to a home theatre or anything. I am also looking at Samsung 511, Phillips 711 and LG 3200 and perhaps Pioneer DVD 535.

I also want the player to play CD-rs as I have some Video Cds on these and also I want it to play MP3s if possible

As I`m new to this I would appreciate any help!

Thanks!!!

Hi stuey c , if you want a good player for under £200 try :-
Aiwa 370 either from comet or if you want it cheaper than that try www.bennettsonline.co.uk includes vat + del , you wont believe the price !

LG 3350E from dabs.co.uk but you will have to wait till after christmas out of stock.

Pioneer 535 from richersounds.co.uk

I prefer the first two myself , don`t know if i can wait till after christmas otherwise i`d go for the LG and of course the sales will be on . Always use yer credit card if poss gives you a double guarantee. Pedro 8O)

I may be wrong, but the only player under £200 which plays MP3`s is the Scan SC2000, available from, errrr, Scan funnily enough, at www.scan.co.uk.

You`ll have to pay carriage on top of the £175 price tag, but it still comes in at under £200. You`ll hear rumours of people having problems, but I`ve just bought one and I`m very pleased with it. It has a simple multi-region hack, picture and sound quality are also better than you`d expect for £200. It`s played all my CDR`s so far and plays MP3 CD`s, it`ll play your Video CD`s too.

If you don`t like the sound of the Scan I`d go for the Samsung 511, only because I have a friend with a Samsung 709, I`ve heard good things about the Samsung, only problem with the 511 is the lack of a permanent hack (at the moment).

Hope this helps

I have a scan SC2000 from the December batch, my first one went back.
I am very pleased with the image quality and the sound quality, the easy multiregion availability and all the formats that it supports. A great player.

Happy searching

Yo Stuey, Nerrr ! Nerrrr ! don`t do it, the mans got mush for brains ! I will save your soul ! . The Scan or should that be SPAM you have to upgrade the firmware every 3 months or so to iron out all those niggles and thats if you have a cd writer to download to it . Don`t you just want to sit down, relax, press play and hey !!!! it works !!!! with good pics + sound and IT plays mp3s . Play safe ! be sure ! don`t sell your soul to the devil ! go for the Aiwa 370 ( or LG if you can hold of one ) you know it makes sense !!!! Pedro 8O). OoohhhhhH !!! I feel it coming on !

Why the LG? Already mentioned that no home theatre setup intended, so that would be a defunct Dolby Digital decoder on board and lack the ability to play VCD!

Get the Aiwa!

Take a better peek here: http://aiwaownersnetwork.tripod.com
You can link to Troll`s LG site and compare the two.
