Alba 108 - How much and where from ?

Bowf (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 14th August 2002, 14:25

Is it really Multi-region straight out of the box ?
Where does one get them from ?
Asda`s website is as nasty as their own brand coke...
Tesco`s website only lists Orion stuff
Safeway`s website doesn`t list any electrical stuff
I was thinking of buying my brother one, but if they`re multiregion out of the box I might get one for myself as well...

Yes it`s multi region - played regions 1, 2 & 4 no probs (no hack required)

There is a way (if you search these forums) that it will play VCD`s

As has already been mentioned above, the player must be multi regional out the box.I had read of a remote hack to make it region free, but out of curiosity i borrowed a mates R1 disc and tried playing it without using the remote hack.It played no problem.I`m also hoping this is not just temporary as on some players they only play other regions a certain number of times before they lock.Does anyone know if this players permanantly region free?

Oh what a surprise - another Alba 108 thread.

Hopefuly the message will be getting through now.

YES this is Multi Region straight out the box.

YES is it permanently Multi Region - unless of course the machine dies. And NO - other machines do not play DVD`s a certain number of times before they lock - some (very few) can only have the region code changed a few times before the region locks. This is not the case with this player.

Can we please not have any more threads about this DVD player - there is probably already about 10 different threads. I`m fed up reading about this player - it`s only £70 just buy it!

Sorry if I am being grumpy!

:-)

Sorry to be repetitive Duder.Info on this machine is few and far between when you search the net,so the only info i can get is off good folk as yourself.Machine locking,as on some philips players,is as you say dependant on the amount of times a region is changed-thats what i meant it just didn`t come out right.thanks for info though,i can now watch R1 discs, which i couldnt do on my Toshiba without chipping.

It does play VCDs and SVCDs.

Load the disc, press `GOTO` a few times when it starts to spin. A time dialogue will pop-up eg. - -:--:-- then press 0 and then enter.
