RE: Men & Motors

It`s all Monster trucks and ancient crash videos.
Absolute rubbish.

RE: How do you check who is in a West End performance ?

There are some obvious expedients.
Avoid matinee performances ( more chance of understudies )
Avoid weekday performances, especially early in the week ( more chance of the stars taking time off after weekend shows )

Apart from that, you`ve no guarantee and zero recourse I`m afraid.

You can,occasionally,strike it lucky though.
The performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we went to see was Anton Rogers` last performance.
The cast has a little surprise for him at the end of the show.
Lights went up,previous cast members appeared on stage (Michael Ball etc.) and they had a wee celebration involving the audience.

We don`t know that the individual concerned fell into this category though !
It was speculation in an earlier thread !
In fact,in my opinion,it could be argued the perpetrator was very switched on.
Switched on enough to cruise an affluent area in his attempt to rob and, perhaps, switched on enough to know the police`s response time to that area would be absolutely crap.
If she`d `only` been robbed :/ ,what would have been the response time ?
Hours ?
Days ?

It wasn`t the only armed robbery/assault in a leafy suburb last week either.
What about the guy that was shot in the chest when robbers wanted the Porsche from ourside his home ?

Perhaps wannabe robbers are starting to realise that s*** rural response times = easy pickings.
So the historically `safe` areas are, maybe, anything but.

When I`ve got enough money (as in super-rich) I plan to learn to ride a motorbike and buy a really nice one.

A top of the range sportsbike can cost less than a decent used family saloon.
For example,£4000 gets you a fantastic used sportsbike.

Quote:
trust me not many rocket riders will outrun/turn a police Pan-european (not exactly a sportsbike eh??)

That`s what they`d like you to believe, but it`s completely inaccurate.
Any decently ridden sportsbike will leave them wobbling and grinding all over the place.
I`ve ridden a Pan-European that the father of a guy I used to race with had.
It`s a lardass,wobbly,slow pile of s***e.

Surely that would suit me even more as sports bikes are supposed to be flickable and my bike more of a slow steering bike??

Chassis rigidity and suspension control are more applicable to fast sweepers than speed of steering.

I raced for years at National level.
I also used to instruct at Trackdays at Knockhill.
Knockhill,when dry,is a fantastic track.
You`ll love it,although I don`t think your bike will !
;)

RE: Just another example of Blairs Britain

It doesn`t matter that it wasn`t a national hotspot for crime.
It deserves a police presence,as does everywhere in Britain.
I don`t think it`s rocket science.
If you have a police presence you have a deterrent.
Even when crimes still take place, which they will of course, response times will be cut, which means more twats will be caught which, again, adds to the deterrent.

But 99.9% of them it would be a waste of resources imho.

This is where we obviously differ.
I don`t think a beat bobby / car patrol is ever a waste of resources, even in the quietest areas.

RE: This Rover going down the pan business...

Blair didn`t give a s*** when GM closed the Vectra factory in Luton two years ago.
A couple of thousand jobs were lost right there.
Funny how an impending election focuses his attention,if you`ll excuse the wee Ford pun there. :/

People who are mentally ill and violent, are not going to take any notice of things that stop rational people from committing crime.

They don`t just think, "Oh look theres a policeman, I`ll stop being mentally ill now and not stab this person I have a strange compulsion to murder."

It`s all speculation.
I think they might,you think they won`t.
Any speculation that they might is worth taking though, isn`t it ?

Let me ask you this.
Would you feel safer if your wife and child were out walking in a street devoid of coppers,as it more or less is now,or a street with a visible police presence ?

I am a Chelsea Fan - and would like to say "Come On You Spurs" - Hhhmmm! that was weird!

Stuffing the Gooners tonight, and thereby ending any hope they have of getting the title,is enough for us. :D
The fact it will hand the title to your two-weeks-from-administration-if-it-hadn`t-been-for-a- rich-Russki bunch of mercernary misfits,is a byproduct we`ll have to take. >:(

It may have deterred this nutter, but it`s not exactly guaranteed.

I think the woman involved would have taken `may`,as would I.
Of course nothing`s guaranteed but we should do all we can to minimise the risks.
Labour certainly aren`t doing that,in my book.

True but i`ve been down that road mate and can honestly say that the buell will do all that my ....ZX9/ZZR1100/GSXR750SRAD/SV1000S would do other than top end speed (yes i have maxed out a 1256cc ZZR @ 193MPH) to the point that yesterday a CBR600 and a ZXR750 could not keep up with me through a series of tight S bends on the grantham road and i had my lad on the buell with me,it sticks to the road like glue and when i got to the roman bank cafe i was fresh as a daisy you might say they were not trying but iwould never of sat behind a buell on any of the above mentioned bikes IF i could of passed

That says more about the riders of said bikes than the capabilities of the Buell I`m afraid.
If they`d really been trying they`d have been off while you were running out of ground clearance and shouting at the thing to get a shift on.
If it had been some fast sweepers, instead of tight S-bends,then the roles would have been reversed and you`d be a wobbly speck in their mirrors.
If tight S-bends were the be-all-and-end-all then we`d all have supermotos, because little will keep up with them on slow corners.
Track days mean as much to me as road riding,so I`ll stick with my sports bikes I think !

Joining this discussion a bit late, and read through what has been said, still don`t understand what the tragic action of a no doubt mentally ill person has to do with Blair?

So you don`t think visible policing would deter random nutters then ?

The CBR600RR your little yellow blob signature thing is riding.
That`s a proper bike now. 8)

I`m a little sceptical as to how much crime can be solved purely by politicians alone, and I sure wouldn`t be expecting it to be cured miraculously by a Conservative government.

Cut down on the ridiculous amounts of red-tape existing officers are expected to do,thereby releasing them onto the `streets`,and increase the numbers of officers in addition to that.
If we can see it needs doing, all we need is some politicians willing to make it happen.

I know a copper,a nurse and a couple of doctors.
They all state that the amount of paperwork reporting procedures, introduced by Labour, has become either laughable or depressing, depending on the individual`s state of mind.
Tends to be the latter though, from what I`ve heard. :¦

RE: I got me a new ride (bling)

From what I`ve read about Buell`s,I hope you got AA roadside with it...

RE: Commercials on ITVs F1 coverage

Quote:
If it had gone to sky (the only other option) many of you wouldnt be able to watch it and the ad breaks would be even longer.

Eurosport are infuriatingly good at inserting ad-breaks into motorbike races but,as Eurosport is `free`,we cannot complain too much. :/

Sky Sports` coverage of the British Superbike series is superb though and never feature breaks during a race, which is easy enough when they are a scheduled 45 minutes long.
You pay for SKY sports though.

That is something I think F1 should adopt,in attempt to make it something other than the current procession supported by fans of the technology rather than fans of racing.
Stop the ridiculous length of races and, instead, adopt the World Superbike standard of two x 45 minute races in a day, seperated by support races.
Less chance of breakdowns,no ridiculously boring pit-stops and more friggin racing !

Well there`s a contradiction in terms, and indication of what the 75 is really like,in one small sentence.

Not a single problem in all that time.

You`re very very lucky indeed.
We had a brief, but disastrous, flirtation with Rovers for some of our staff a few years back.We had around three 214`s,two 216`s and a 220.
Every single one of them was an unreliable bucket of s***e.
I don`t mean minor annoyances either.
I`m talking about major mechanical hassles and actual breakdowns.
When was the last time you heard of breakdowns in a fleet of new cars ?
Rogue cars can come along from any manufacturer but when the whole fleet breaks down,at some point, you know you`re dealing with a crap manufactuer.
Something we never experienced before, and haven`t experienced since, with many other makes such as Peugeot,Renault,Audi,VW,Jaguar,Mercedes,Ford and Honda.

I have every sympathy for the workforce but,at the same time,I wonder how many of them knew deep down that the cars were crap and should, perhaps, have jumped before they were pushed.
Easier said than done I suppose though. :(

RE: How would you get a car stereo to work in your bedroom

The beauty of using a car stereo is that you can flush fit the speakers, into the ceiling for example.
A motorbike shop I used to work in had umpteen speakers sunk into the roof, working off a car head unit.
Sounded very good indeed.
All you need is the 240/12 transformer and off you go.

RE: Commercials on ITVs F1 coverage

How were ITV to know there would actually be a race, for once, instead of the usual procession ?
You should be grateful the rubbish gets any air time, never mind for free.
:p

RE: Amityville Remake

Depends what you read.
There will always be those who claim it`s bollox but,IMO,I`ve always found Mr.Lutz`s testimonies (written or spoken) to be very plausible.
Of course,that doesn`t mean they`re true.
One thing`s for sure though.
I`m feckin sure I wouldn`t spend any time there to try and find out. :/

RE: Amityville Remake

If you`ve ever read any of the testimony from the guy actually involved though, there`s a fair bit of `artistic licence` even in the first film, never mind the ridiculously fantastic new version.
For example, although the room (which they made into a sewing room) was indeed constantly plagued by flies,it was only ever a small number.
Not the swarms depicted in the films.
The ending of the film is also pure speculation as the family have still,to my knowledge,to admit what happened on the last day.
They merely state that events `escalated` and they got the impression the house didn`t want them to leave. :/

Just watched an interviewer live on the news on TV. Behind him two or three feet away, trying to mug the interview, were a group of chavs laughing and messing up the broadcast. They must have known what it is about.
No respect anymore.

If we had such a thing as visible policing, they could have moved them along. >:(

RE: Another god damn student having a moan :-D

Of course it`s not racist, although you`ll have it thrown at you in the usual lazy, kneejerk,PC manner.
I called BT the other night and honestly could not understand a bloody word the woman was saying, apart from "Hold on please" every three seconds.
I was forced to call back the next day and complained about the previous night`s experience.
The woman I spoke to,this time,had a scottish accent.
She could have been black, asian, chinese etc.etc.etc.
I couldn`t give a toss.
Bottom line is I could understand her and have the problem resolved.

RE: flueless fires

Unless you have a very good reason to want a gas fire,I would suss out an electric fire.
We just installed a fire and surround straight onto a flat wall ( no drilling ),and it looks superb.
There are some very attractive electric fires out there now.
They`re barely distinguishable from gas ones and certainly not like the twin bar monstrosities your granny used to have ! :o ;)

I forgot to say.
Our electric fire is remote control and you can change the colour of the flame effect.
Very cool. 8)

RE: JVC Surround Sound

I also have a JVC telly with dolby surround.
You can use the TV`s speakers as part of a seperate 5.1 system, but I`m sure I`m right in thinking you can only use them as a glorified centre speaker.
I think you would still have to use your GF`s left and right.
The TV`s manual explains how to do it.

Absolutely nothing to do with Blair or any other party. How can the act of a mad person be a political issue. I doubt if one million extra police would make any differance in this sort of situation.

It`s got bloody everything to do with Blair.
Perhaps if there was visible policing the nutter wouldn`t have done it.
Perhaps if there was visible policing, and he`d still done it,he would have been caught quickly and the woman would have recieved medical attention quicker.
Perhaps if there were minimum sentences for these types of nutters, instead of bleeding-heart social workers willing to cry `bad childhood` and `human rights` and judges willing to listen to them,he would have thought twice about doing it.
Blair`s fecking government is the first government I can remember that seriously takes the perpetrators rights, views,or feelings into account instead of treating them like the fecking animals they are. >:(
