Alba DVD108. Macrovision hack needed???

almightymark (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 26th August 2002, 18:15

I bought an Alba DVD108 from Argos. A brilliant player for the price. It does everything I want, plays all region discs,vcd`s,svcd`s,cd-r`s and mp3`s. The only problem is that it won`t record onto VHS.
Does anyone know a hack to disable the macrovision? If so, please let me know. I`m sure other people want to know as well.
Thanks in advance.

i have a alba108 dvd player, see the tread @ the top for more information. i didnt buy mine from the argos catalog, but theres no reson why it should be any diffrent from yours. i have recorded seveal vcd`s svcd`s and dvd`s to vhs buy pugging a standerd scart lead into the back of the player plugging the other end into the back of the vcr, switching the vcr to aux channel. & thats it.. works for me?.

By standard lead do you mean fully-wired or part-wired?
I`ve tried this with fully-wired scarts to no avail.
Maybe it`s your VCR, as I`ve tried two VCRs, one worse than the other. (The first wouldn`t even pass through ok. The second passed through, but wouldn`t record.)

No joy.
I have already tried that but it`s no good. When you playback the video, the colour flashes and the picture is slightly distorted. Would it be that I am trying to record them with a new video recorder? Would an older video recorder do the trick? I`ll give it a go and see what happens.

by standerd i mean the scart lead that was supplyed with my alba108, (fully wirded) my video recorder i use is only about 6months old. so its not that, the recorded picture looks just the same as the picture thou the dvdplayer.. i carnt think why other ppl`s players dont act the same as mine.. the only thing that comes to mind, is i didnt buy mine from argos. i got it about 2 weeks before the new catalog came out... but i dont see how that would make any diffrence. unless eariler models of the player have macrovision disabled.. but it seems rather unlikely.

This sounds like a wind up to me. No mention of the model of vcr used and vague references to acquiring a non argos model of the 108. Yea right! From where?

Some discs are macro free such as Harry Potter and Blade II but they are the exception.

The 108 is not macro free from the box nor is there a hack. Despite intensive research we do not have a simple vcd hack and some svcd don`t play at all.

Don`t waste peoples` time with fairy stories.

Mr TrannyHunger, where did you buy this Alba108 assuming it is bought. It is VCD usable without the hack. If all this is true then you probably have 1 of the first models which had the firmware set up for VCD. Could you go in to the set up menu (Eject 2812 enter) and post the full details of all the values in this menu. We might be able to learn something fom you. As for Macrovision, could be disabled similarly also but perhaps you have a Ferguson video - some of these are apparently unaffected by mv Would be nice if you could dump the firmware and share it around Cheers

I seen one in a shop called the bargain street it is the ex epire stuff, they had an Alba DVD108 but it just looked like a standard argos one, no mention of SVCD on the front, just thought i`d say!
