RE: Alba DVD108. Macrovision hack needed???

By standard lead do you mean fully-wired or part-wired?
I`ve tried this with fully-wired scarts to no avail.
Maybe it`s your VCR, as I`ve tried two VCRs, one worse than the other. (The first wouldn`t even pass through ok. The second passed through, but wouldn`t record.)

RE: macrovision disable for Alba dvd 108

Well, I can link my Alba 108 through my VCR to my TV ok, no problems.
However, when I try to record from it, lo, the dreaded macrovision rears its ugly head. (Tested with Excalibur and Shrek.)

Are you sure your Alba is macrovision free, and it`s not just a non-macrovision protected DVD? (I can record the latest Lord of the Rings to VHS no problem, but I`m told the Lord of the Rings DVD is not macrovision enabled. Something about not wanting to pay macrovision the royalties.)

RE: Please Help! I gotta new DVD player . . . .

I don`t think there`s any permanent hack for playing VCDs, (as yet anyway). However, the three 108`s I`ve tried were all multi-region out of the box. If yours isn`t I`d get it swapped.

Problem with Region 1 display on Alba 103

I`ve just got an R1 copy of "The Matrix". My Alba plays it, but there are problems with the display. Setting the TV type setting on the Alba to PAL, the display is distorted, being stretched vertically. Setting it to NTSC rectifies this, but now the picture is in black and white. (I thought setting the scart output to RGB was supposed to get rid of this effect, but it seems not).

My TV is a Matsui 25M1, which is not supposed to support NTSC, but is supposed to support PAL60.

Anybody any ideas on how to fix the vertical distortion so I can watch R1 NTSC disks in colour?
