Star Wars:AOTC is the perfect movie! (Digital Projection)

Jitendar Canth (Reviewer) posted this on Friday, 17th May 2002, 18:49

No, I haven`t lost my head.

Today, I went to see said movie at the Odeon Leicester Square.
I admit that I had seen Final Fantasy there and it used digital projection.
But that was a CGI movie anyway

But Star Wars, being a live (sort of) action movie, being shown digitally
was nothing less than perfect.

No worry about changing reels, no blips blemishes, just a pure
perfect crystal clear image from beginning to end.

George Lucas does for cinema picture what he did for cinema sound with THX. One day all films will be shown this way.

If you can at all watch Star Wars AOTC at the Odeon Leicester Square then make the most of that opportunity. I`m going again next week

Where else (other than London Village) in England does digital projection?

If you want to see the headbutt, it`s in the Bucket Head, making of video that you can watch at:

What`s even funnier about them cutting it, is the fact that it`s someone headbutting a guy in a helmet. You`d have thought simple common sense wold tell kids not to headbutt people in helmets. LOL

If you refer to my initial post, you`ll see that I`m not commenting on the content, merely the digital Projection used at Odeon Leicester Square.
:-)

Didn`t it matter to you that the film was tedious?

I quite liked the film but all the CGI stuff was laughable.... how about they get back to using loads of sets again. Then it would actually feel like the Star Wars we remember. Lucas should employ Blue Peter and not ILM, a few more egg box/yoghurt pot special effects wouldn`t go amiss. He`s created a big problem with this CGI stuff because everything looks better than it does in the original trilogy, which happens later. The chinless beardy fool!

I viewed this last night at UCI Cardiff.
People go on about digital projection, but in all fairness the image here was astonishing, virtualy blemish free and pure detail right onto the darkest corner - digital is the way forward, but good old projection still has a long time ahead of it yet.
As for the movie? Hmmmm, not so sure. The worst thing is the continuity, the whole middle of the film just keeps jumping from one part of the story to another, then back, then forward again, then sideways AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHH!! George you are so frustrating!! The love story element simply sucked, and Anakin will have thankfully grown up and we won`t have to put up with Hayden Christianson and his awful acting. Jango Fett and his son were both Australian which was good, but somehow they didn`t seem too fussed on leting their accents rip, i would have loved to see Jango break out with (please, adopt your best Neighbours accent), `You pesky bearded mongrel! Yer scarin me little boy yer dullard - just look at the power, look at the power of my dodgy spaceshift!`.
However much the CGI is out of keeping with the rest of the series, for the most part i was quietly amused for 2 hours, the chase scene at the beginning is great, the Yoda fight simply had everyone in hysterics, but there simply wasn`t enough of Yoda fighting - the guy is a legend!
Natalie Portman looks sensational, a few years makes the world of difference!
And the set design, character costumes, crazy camera zooms near the films finale, and of course John Williams superb music all made this a welcome and encouraging return to the Star Wars franchise - however this was certainly no Empire, New Hope, and just marginally better than Jedi. However, a big improvement on TPM. I`ll look forward to the next installment and see if George can actually hire a decent script writer this time.

Not bad, but not good either

Westy
