No, the Taliban in Afghanistan is only a recent-ish phenomena.
You're thinking of the mujahideen...

Necessity is the mother of invention. The Taliban grew from the Mujahideen (Taliban means 'student' in Pashto). In the years since their ousting they've clearly forged more alliances, mainly with China, who are Putin's best buds. You can't take over a country in such a short space of time with a rag-tag bunch of brainwashed thugs without some kind of state-backed support.

Depends, but you're probably right as most of the standard weaponry in the Middle East is clearly Russian in origin - although they now have a load of US weaponry that was either part of the Afghan army or just left when the US pulled out.
The fact that Russians don't seem to concerned is a confirmation that they're involved in some capacity...

Just be thankful Afghanistan doesn't have nukes. They would be flying before midnight.

Hearing plenty of reports of executions, torture, child brides to taliban fighters, all the usual stuff that we apparently are fine about happening. And typically the uk govt are being difficult about accepting refugees because we don't want to 'set a precedent'. Utterly shameful. I am completely disgusted and angry. Why would any other foreign nationals want to help this country ever again when we would clearly let them rot and die as soon as we don't need them.
Shameful decision not just the troop pull out but treatment of Afghans who helped the US, this is why Muppets like Trump got in and will again because people are sick and tired of Politicians making obviously wrong decisions like this for reasons that make little sense, now only a matter of time before we get training camps up and running and another or multiple attacks on a huge scale
