Why?"
Indeed.  To allow things to run rife for over two months so more people can be jabbed to then ask them to prove it.
Hmmmm, what could go wrong..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Seems Chris Whitty got one of his key stats wrong today...

This More or Less special is worth a listen to whilst you wait for tonight's "Dominic Cummings points out how awful a person Boris is but still nobody will care" show:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000y49w

One of the statisticians in it has a model which suggests that we are just cresting over the peak caused by the recent raft if infections, but that the removal of restrictions will cause a second peak that either happens early August (in which case yay!) or late August (in which case definitely not yay).

Excess deaths in India last year...

4 million

I'll let that sink in... may take a while.

Puts it all into perspective, that is a phenomenal number.

What caused that?

Is it the societal make-up, we know they have a caste system (although I don't know much about it).

Is it overcrowding, allowing the virus to spread like wildfire?

Is their public health system and communications poor?

Are the Indian population not paying attention or ignoring safety guidelines?

Is it a combination of some of all of this and/or something else?

Indian Population is 1.4 billion. Excess mortality rate... 0.28%

UK Population 68 million. Excess mortality rate... 0.22%

I'd guess is that they did much the same that we did here. Completely screw it up.

An Indian friend went back to see family a while ago, he now lives and works in USA,  and even in the city he went in in India, people weren't wearing masks, no social distancing, just carrying on as normal, from what he said, most people just didn't understand the magnitude of the problem, and the government was more wishy washy than ours.

He couldn't wait to leave again.

People there were heading to the Ganges to clean themselves, we didn't have that with The Thames.

It's not the final number, it's the magnitude of the lie. Remember seasonally adjusted unemployment figures? The UK government early on threw in the 28 days later clause when they report Covid deaths, so the Covid death total of around 129,000 ought to be compared with the ONS figure of excess deaths of 152,000.

In India, Modi's populist government decided to offer compensation to families of Covid victims, and they have been vacillating ever since. The offiicial Indian death toll from Covid is 414,000

So we did better?

*EDIT*
I know I'm being facetious, but so many people spent so much time banging on about how we had the highest death toll (not %) in the world...
