Page 1 of I've got a new job!
General Forum
I'm not digging up my old thread any more. I've put it to bed now that I have put cancer in my past.
So, we were struggling financially before my diagnosis and I had started looking for work as the income from my husband's business was no longer enough - but that fell through suddenly, and you know what happened then.
Having been given the all clear last month, I decided I now needed to get job-hunting again. I was quite apprehensive, as I'm fast heading for 50 and I've had cancer - would I be employable?
But I have found a lovely job, which I start today. I am now a Hotel Receptionist at the London Beach Hotel in Tenterden. It's a wonderful job, and I am over the moon. About time I got some good luck - feels like things are on the up at last!
That's great news Sue!
Why is it called London Beach Hotel when it's in Kent???

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
Great news! I'm still looking for next job, I interviewed with VISA this week and have something lined up with the FCA and IFDS next week so fingers crossed! I might be started my own thread next week! :)
Welcome to the hotel reception family, i have been doing it for best part of 25 years now and love it :), was reception manager but had enough of that and now I am agency, live in hotels, they feed and water me and not being a smoker or drinker can save loads and most importantly get to see amazing parts of the country.....have u worked in hotel reception before or is this all new to you?

You may well ask! There is an area nearby known locally as London Beach, where the road to our village, the A262, meets the A28 Canterbury - Hastings Road. So as the Hotel is within a few hundred yards of that area, they named it the London Beach Hotel. But I have absolutely no idea why it is so known in the first place! lol

No, this is my first placement in this industry, but it is exactly what I wanted to do. I am a people person and enjoy face to face interaction.
I did my first shift today, 9am - 2pm, and successfully managed to deal with phone enquiries and bookings, check people out, book people in, and take payments etc. Not bad for my first day.
It's only 5 minutes down the road, which is an added bonus, considering how far out in the sticks I live.
Congratulations Sue, glad you found something that you like, not had many jobs I enjoyed, good luck. :-)
Well done Sue. :D
My outlook on life is positive & carefree, I'm positive that I'm a pessimist & I don't care what what you think.
Never has so little had to be explained by me to so many so often.
