Twit next door and his car.
Morning all, any advice please?
One of my neighbours has just knocked (and woken both children and me up) to tell me that apparently when I parked last night, I hit his car. Wasn`t very with it to start with, and said "didn`t know I`d hit it" etc, which was followed by said neighbour insisting he had a witness and I wasn`t parked there at six o clock last night when he came back from the petrol station coz he drove straight into his space. There is two small cracks on his bumper, and a scuff mark on my car, which I don`t remember seeing before as its an old car and I`ve never really looked for marks.
However, he swears black`s blue that he wasn`t there in the day and I must have done it last night, all well and good but I went shopping and to the park in the morning and got back at lunchtime. The car hasn`t moved since. Also, the scuff mark on my car doesn`t match where he claims I hit him. It would have been impossible to have caused the damage to his car like that.
I`m very dubious too because he immediately announces he doesn`t see the point in getting police and insurance involved and immediately says he had his front bumper done not long ago and it cost a couple of grand to replace, and he`d like to arrange a private repair and me pay the bill.
As I`m certain I didn`t hit it, I`ve told him to call the police and deal with it with them, he stormed off insisting he has a witness etc. I`m equally sure I have people who saw that I was in and definitly made a phone call and was on internet yesterday evening.
Have I done the right thing? I`m fairly sure he`s just trying to scam me for the cost of the bumper.
Yeah sounds like a prick, and where he got his front bumper done for 2 grand I don`t know, what`s it made of, gold?
You`ve done the right thing, bet nothing comes of it.

Police wont deal with it as it`s a civil matter. I suppose he might try `failing to report/stop` Marksparks will perhaps be able to comment on that.
Tell him you have witnesses, make sure he knows that`s plural, that you never left the house and tell him if he still wants to make something of it go find a lawyer. Also worth pointing out that there`s no way the scuff on your car coincides with his.
Your word against his basically. If court starts being mentioned his witness will probably contract amnesia.
It may be worth a phone call to your insurers just in case he tries going behind your back but make sure they know you are NOT reporting an accident as there never was one.
If he wont leave you alone you can then let the local law know he`s pestering you.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
RE: Twit next door and his car.
I had someone threaten me with legal action last year, over something he had no grounds on and in the grand scheme of things was totally absurd.
I wrote a 5 page letter listing all the reasons why he had no leg to stand on with his claims, and that I welcomed legal action if he still wanted to go ahead with it.
That was the last I heard from him!

I`d talk to your witnesses just to make sure they know the situation, rather than risk waiting a few weeks and then him actually turning up with a claim and you finding they have forgotten or are unsure of events as they saw them!

Tell him to take a running jump.......
Id take pics of your car today with uber detail of the bumper area`s.
Ask him to pop back with his witness as I have a feeling that he will be replacing petrol station for pub
I would follow snaps and stu uk,s advice and not whoots, do not give this person a penny he sounds like a scammer, let him prove to your insurance company or the police that he as evidence.
Also do NOT seek out his "witness" doing that could imply that something did happen its for him to prove you hit him and until he as done that then I woudn`t give the twat the time of day.........Im getting angry.

Write down your side of the story while it is still fresh in your mind and do the same with any witnesses you may have. As if he comes back later on you will not have forgotten anything.
