Sky - Cancel then refer same house...

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Friday, 2nd April 2010, 11:52

Has anyone had any experience doing this?

The Sky+ HD deals for new customers seem a lot better than existing customers upgrading.  My dad`s contract expired 2 years ago and he`s thinking of upgrading to a HD box.  I was thinking if he just cancelled the contract and took out another one in my mother`s name he`d get the new customer deal... has anyone done this before and do Sky allow it?

Cheers
Ross

sounds feasible, plus Sky normally bend over backwards to ensure customers stay with them. Although, changing the name on the contract won`t do much - they go by postal address

Going by postal address seems a bit flawed.  Going off the basic scenario of my Dad moving out and a new family moving in Sky should offer them the `new to Sky` offers.

The best they offered was 6 months half price line rental.  They still wanted to charge me for installation (£15) if I went with a Sky+ HD.  My Dad has been out of contract for the last 2 years and this is the first time he`s spoken to them in regards to leaving; I was a bit disappointed with their offers.

So when you move house the new occupants can`t get a deal?  It is against the person not the house..........

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Can he apply on their website? Sometimes you can get the better deal by just using the automated systems rather than talking to a person.

The ideal solution would be for me to refer my mother and get the free installation and free box for them plus £50 M&S vouchers each.  They referred me and we got an iPod touch and £25 M&S voucher.  As he only has the basic package 6 months half price rental etc... isn`t that appealing.

It`s not a case of people or properties, it`s a case of they`re wise to people trying to get bargains and they make sure Sky are the ones coming out on top.

If he only has the basic package then HD isn`t going to be entirely world changing for him. He is looking at BBC HD, Channel 4 HD and ITV HD plus a few others. The movies, sport and nature documentaries are where HD excels imo.

Anyway, if they already have Sky+ then I believe Sky offer a no install option where they just send you the box and you are able to install it without the need of a professional to plug in the four cables to the back of the box. What you will miss out on though if your "professional" is anything like mine is the opportunity to be conned out of you old Sky+ box. That`s if you let him con you of course. I chose the "laugh in his face" approach when he told me he had to take my old box away to return to Sky under their T&Cs.

According to the list below you get all those HD channels.  The only ones you don`t get are Sports and Movies... channels in italics you only get if you subscribe to those channels.

Their box is 3 years old so they need an engineer out to install a second feed.

You can talk to an operator til your blue in the face, if youre out of contract you need to speak to the CANCELLATIONS dept.

Ask them at first by all means, when the offer isn`t suitable, ask for cancellations.
If the offer still isn`t suitable, tell them to cancel... you`re a month in advance so it doesn`t disappear until next billing date etc. and either you can ring up before then or they`ll ring you.
