Best title sequence ever?

stefmcd (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 8th January 2002, 20:52

While watching a movie tonight I thought damn what a fine title sequence.
The movie?
Well its the best movie I ever saw at the cinema -

Reservoir Dogs.

The movie is in my top 10 but the title sequence as they walk down the road to `little green bag` must be no. 1.

Opinions? Alternatives?

Just for pure atmosphere, I`ve always loved the opening of Close Encounters......nothing on screen, John Williams music at its weirdest, and suddenly your bang in the middle of a dust storm. Mind you, you have to see it :-).........and now I come to think of it, North by Northwest...another superb mix of graphics and music!

I always thought `Alien` had a really nice intro sequence....the way it begins outside the ship and prefaces the scenario.....and then slowly creeps around inside the empty ship before meeting the occupants in their sleep. It just always struck me as being very well done.

Cronenberg and David Fincher get great people to do their credit sequences, both working under the proviso that film should be as unlike television as possible; and so both of these guy`s films always start with the viewer feeling suitably claustrophobic, with the stifling feeling that you`re stuck in a big dark room staring at a screen. But the daddy of title sequences is undoubtedly Saul Bass, who concocted pretty much every one of Hitchcock`s titles you`re likely to remember, the best of which has got to be the tranfixing dementia of `Vertigo`.

I like the Charlies Angels start, where the camra zooms past the "Columbia" lady then through the clouds up the side of the plane. Probably not a title sequence, but damn good.

Fight Club`s "brain ride" is great.

The title sequence of VERTIGO by Hitchcock is one of the all-time-greats.
