Probably Steve Irwin. A genuine guy with a passion for something. Didnt flinch when Diana died though. Was actually more annoyed at the time that the cricket and F1 went ahead while Liverpools game was cancelled as a mark of respect.

Sir Nigel Hawthorne. He used to pop into the hotel bar with his `companions` very often and we always had a nice chat. I was asked to attend the funeral but I declined , as no doubt I would have embarrassed myself by being completely star-struck at the service (Amongst others, Sylvester attended)

That really nice to hear - shows what a nice guy he was.
But you knew him - to the extent you were invited to his funeral - so that doesn`t count as part of this discussion.

River Phoenix and Kurt Cobain. River Phoenix dying of a drug overdose was the bigger shock of the two because of his image.

Another shock was finding out about 5 years ago that the little girl who was the voice of Ducky in "The Land Before Time" (one of my favourite films as a kid) was murdered by her abusive father.

When Princess Diana died my sister ran up stairs and told mum what had happened - I was still mostly asleep and *heard* "Princess Diana has stolen a car and gone driving around Paris!".

Jimi Hendrix.
Still remember lying in bed listening to The Star Spangled Banner on Luxembourg.
