Employment Law question
Hi All
Quick question for all your HR buffs, legal eagles and employers.
I know that we used to have a rule in this country about employment of non-eu nationals, in that you had to prove that a non-eu national would be employed only where the relevant skills were unavailable in an eu national - effectively closing the dor on spurious cheap labour areas like turkey (where the ankara agreement allows turkish nationals to work on a self employed basis)
Is this still in existence? If I have misunderstood, does anyone know the appropriate law?
Cheers
Yet another pointless remake........
Ok, so it wasnt the greatest movie, but I liked it and it should be left alone
Fright Night
Some `interesting` choices there, personally dont see Farrell as a Jerry Dandrige, but Mintz-Plasse might make for a useful Evil Ed.

RE: The winner of the weird, strange, oddest looking speakers of the year award .........
If anything like the harmon kardon soundsticks II then they will sound f***ing awesome
RE: Observe and Report
You all heard correctly, it was pure s***.
A fractured joke at bipolar people that does nothing to enhance their reputation in the media and general public perception.
Rogen can act, but he comes across as an unlikeable c*** in this movie
RE: Peter Jackson`s Lovely Bones - sneak peek
I also saw a sneak peek of this, and I have to disagree with everything Gareth has said.
I thought it was some of the most boring, self indulgent tripe I have ever seen. The story didnt flow very well (admittedly I only got about 1/3 of the way through the book before it sent me to sleep) but she was alive for too long and the whole revelation of who the killer was made no sense (perhaps my fault from the book perhaps).
I couldnt wait for this to end, and i did have high hopes for it.
RE: Stephen Gately - RIP
Didnt see that one coming
Not a fan of his music, but a year younger than me and no apparent cause of death yet....
RE: 2012 Full Trailer
Thought it looked like every other Roland Emmerich movie to be honest, and thats all FX, no story.
Not stopping the trailer, let me to "The Road" which looked much better IMHO.
Pearl Jam Shepherds Bush Empire 11th August
Anyone else here manage to get tickets for this?
Ok, I admit it, it was more of a boast on my part that I am one of a very lucky 2000 people getting into such a smal gig by such a huge band :p
RE: How long until Newcastle go bankrupt then?
A week from the start of the season, a month from the end of the transfer window.
Arguably the biggest (by a huge margin) wage bill in the championship, racked up by a number of players with (comparatively) little sell on value, diminished further by an inherent NEED to sell before any purchases can be made.
If this club is bought by the end of august, the new owners are going to be left with a bunch of players they cant sell, and will be overpaying until at least January. These are much the same bunch who hopelessly underperfomed and listlessly got themselves relegated last year without so much as a fightback.
No manager, no money, no (lets be honest here) real chairman or interested Board of Directors. Newcastle will struggle to survive one championship year, let along bounce straight back again. This alone will diminish the asing price further as every year out of the prem carries a massive depreciative value and the parachute payments are just not good enough to sustain.
Rumours are that Martins is off to Wolfsburg for about 9 mill. Didnt ask for a transfer so will pocket a portion of that. How much will go into transfer kitty? Likely to be a fat zero, although 70k per week will be freed up from the wage bill, or will that just be a deduction in operating costs?
Bassong, Taylor, Gutierrez, Nolan et al, will probably panic at the last moment and slap in a transfer request leaving the guts [sic] ripped out of the team, and perhaps 6 hours to find a motley crew of freebies from the world who will be charged with keeping the good ship Toon afloat for 4 months until the Jan transfer window opens, by which time it will be too late.
Grave times ahead, Leeds still havent fully recovered yet and it could be longer for newcastle.
RE: Where was Messi...
Nice to see that nothing has changed and that Paull is still regarded as a complete c*** by most on here.........and that the man himself seems intent on proving it in every possible way.
Such and irritable and petty little man
RE: Hatton V Pacquiao Predictions
Havent seen it yet, but there was no way that Hatton was going to win this one.
There was talk not so long ago of Khan fighting Pacquiao, if that ever came off then you would be looking at Murder in the squared circle
RE: Hatton V Pacquiao Predictions
Cant see Hatton winning this sadly, I think that Pacman will be too fast and furious for him.
Pacman has beaten the bigger men, arguably stronger than Hatton (de la hoya anyone?), and I think it will be over in 9 rounds.
RE: Whatever happened to Nickthegun?
yeah, well he is one of the other reasons I couldnt be arsed to post here anymore.
With Manure looking good again this year, his permanent arrogance and rose tinted view on life is too much to deal with
RE: Whatever happened to Nickthegun?
How do Fowler.
I kept meaning to come back, but always found something else to do......;)........but I will give it another try now.
I do genuinely believe that a little shake up of the forums is overdue. Some of the discussion areas are like a wasteground and you can almost see the tumbleweeds across the screen
RE: Anyone seen Martyrs?
Yeah, Guinea Pig Movies are just grim.
The Flower of Flesh and Blood, is a particularly nasty little short movie that had me heaving when SPOILER:
he cut out the eye and licked the blood and gunge off of it :(
Rumour has it, back in the 80`s Charlie Sheen got his hands on this movie and sent it to the FBI believing it was a snuff movie. Some parts look tame now, but the whole thing is pretty horrific
RE: Anyone seen Martyrs?
I really liked this, and while it was very OTT, the last few minutes will actually stay with you for a long time. I found myself thinking about it, and the pity for what they went through just rose to the surface.
Would recommend it to anyone, although I hear that the yanks are now looking at a remake, although there is no chance that they touch the SPOILER:
skinning the girl alive scene
RE: Whatever happened to Nickthegun?
I myself have also been missing for a while, I have drifted in and out, but I hate to say it that the old place has gone kinda stale.
annoyingly I have found myself going over to TDVDF as a first stop because their TV and Music forums seem a lot more active than the ones here, and because they have more members, there is always something new going on.....even at weekends when the 9 to 5-ery of DVDreviewer seems to kick in badly.
I like to to come back and see whats going on, but the last time I did (only about 2 months ago) Basbat got on my tits, started being obnoxious in a retailer review thread, got it closed down and I didnt bother coming back again, which is a shame as the core here still hasnt changed a bit.
RE: Ebuyer - shocking service
I had to go out, I was Xmas shopping and was popping back periodically. I assumed that I would be able to collect it from the depot, as its only a few miles from my house.
It was a late deal that I took because the price was better than anywhere else.
Ben - I have spoken to numerous people, the last lot of communication has been done via an imbecile on enotes.
I have PM`d Marksparks to see what he has to say about it. I personally dont feel I should be claiming on my insurance over this since I have not signed for it. They think I should because a neighbour signed for it.
RE: Ebuyer - shocking service
I have actually been trying to deal with them in a reasonable manner.
I have provided them with a copy of a delivery note that says it was left at my back door, but they are arguing back with the claim that as it was signed for by a neighbour then it is a police matter not theirs!!
Marksparks999 - what is the official line on this?
The information given is conflicting, since Parcelforce have claimed since day 1 that it was left with a neighbour, now they are going back on it saying that as there is proof it was signed for then nitto.
I have started chargeback proceedings, but am concerned now that I wont get my money back!
Ebuyer - shocking service
I ordered a tv for my little sister before Xmas from these clowns, to be delivered on 23rd December.
When i got home, I found a card put through my door saying that it had been left around the back. When I went around the back, no TV.
Went to my account online and found that it had been signed for!!! but not by me, by someone else from in the block of flats that overlooks my house, 2 doors down.
Spoke to the guy in the flat, he said he was asked to sign for it, but said he didnt have it, and the slip seems to clarify this by saying it was left at the back. I spoke to ebuyer, they claim that he signed for it, and it was left with him. After much toing and froing, back and forth, they are saying that its in their T&Cs that it can be signed for by a neighbour. I asked them where this was, and made them back down by agreeing that it wasnt in there.
Now they feel that I must raise a police complaint and go through my insurers for recompense. I am fighting back on this with them, that its not my problem, I did not agree to them letting a neighbour sign for it, and put it somewhere else.
I have had to splash out again for a very late present for my Sister so she didnt go without on Xmas day, and now i am furiously trying to sort this.
What are my rights, and is the best way to resolve this to contact my credit card company and let them do the bizzo?
RE: Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull what d`ya think thread.
I just thought this was terrible!
Poor story, poor acting, poor SFX. I shall now have to eliminate this from my memory and pretend it never happened.
RE: Not Anticipating Remakes thread
Quote:
How many John Carpenter films are they going to remake they have already remade Assault on precinct 13, Halloween and The Fog
TBF those are probably 3 of the best remakes
True, and The Fog sucked giant donkey balls. Got halfway through it and couldnt face anymore of Superman vs The Fog.
Black Christmas could rank as possibly one of the worst films I have ever seen (not seen original).
Its a crying shame that originality seems to be dead in Hollywood
RE: Whats been your Game of the Year?
Fallout 3 looks like it could run away with this, but I loved COD5 personally.
Got Gow2, LittleBigPlanet and Fallout 3 in my to play pile, and have done about a quarter of Dead Space. I think it was a very poor first half of the year for me, with the second half delivering game after game after game and I cant really keep up
RE: 2008/2009 Fantasy footie
I thought I had joined this, but apparently I havent. Can someone open up the league to let me in?
RE: Live Lounge 3 - out 20th Oct 2008
Loved the first, hated the second. Hoping that the third isnt too bad.
Standouts across the series for me are Jamelias version of Numb, and the streets covering their own track "lets push things forward"
