The EU has effectively ended free trade/right to trade of several retailers.
Legislation/court cases sought/brought to force ALL retailers to source their material from sources the BPI deem suitable.

Utter phuqen lunacy.

Is it any wonder the record industry is so despised and held to ridicule for their protectionist attitude. Aided and abetted by the ring pieces that masquerade as the "fair and objective" judiciary.

Does this effect their sale of DVDs? BPI are a bunch of f***ers. Makes me want to download even more music, just out of principal.

How does the OFT justify this? If the CDs sourced by CD Wow are legitimate and they are able to offer them at a lower price, isn`t this the competitive market in action?

And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

They cannot justify it in any way.
The judgement shows exactly how much clout the BPI and others have and how little regard the courts have for the consumers.
Simply put "f*** the punter and lets f***en screw them for every penny they have and pretend we are trying to act in their interests"

Just goes to show that Corporate Britain has the judiciary in its pocket as well as the politicians. >:(

Afterthought: I`m fascinated that the media call the BPI an "industry body" when it is AFAIR a private company. Wouldn`t "revenue protection company" be more accurate and put the BPI where it belongs, on a level with debt collectors and dodgy bailiff companies?

Protectionist attitude of the record companies aside, the slagging off off the judiciary for applying the law of the land is bit off. You wouldn`t be slagging them if they were jailing some felon who`d nicked your car.

And if I offer to sell you something as long as you don`t resell it in, say, Dundee, and you do, you are in breach of contract. And I have a claim in damages. Simple really.

Please don`t take this post as a defence of the contract terms themselves, I share the majority view that we are ripped off everytime we buy music or other "content" but CD Wow accepted the conditions of sale so I don`t have any real sympathy for them. That siad, my lack of empathy could be due to an all night completion meeting that still hasn`t completed.

Anyway, one word, bittorrent. Which reminds me, I missed Life on Mars, must go search.
