Best way to keep cats off yer garden?

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Sunday, 18th March 2007, 10:16

We`ve got a small garden out front with a small area under the kitchen window that annie`s planted a couple of small plants in. There`s a few cats in the close and they`ve taken to crapping right in the middle. Digging up a few plants as they go. (Annie`s convinced it`s a local dog, but it would never get through the fence)

We`ve tried garlic, but that didn`t work. Any suggestions. No jasper carrott/Mole references please..

Wasn`t there a massive, rambling thread on this a while back?

Anyhoo, apparently they don`t like citrus fruit, so maybe some sort of essential oils dribbled around the area (leave out the candles and whale music though). You can also get ultrasonic animal scarers. Don`t know how affective they are. Might be worth a google.

You might find that it`s foxes digging up your garden - we`ve got a window box out front that was constantly being dug up. We thought it was cats too until one night I was woken at 4am by what sounded like a baby shrieking. I went downstairs and there balanced on the window box was a bloomin` fox, digging in the dirt like it`s life depended on it! I`ve seen it and another one that seem to run around together between 3 and 4am, jumping from garden to garden looking for rubbish to rip apart. It`s not even that we live in the country - this is in London!

I`ve heard that lion or tiger poo is very effective in scaring the blighters off (cats - but I`m sure it would work for foxes too). Of course, it`s debateable whether or not it`s the smell of the thing or just the sheer size that matters...

Apparently, laying out DVDs works as cats hate reflective or shiny surfaces. So if you`ve got a stack of junk DVDs of the AOL variety or coasters that haven`t recorded properly, try them.

With lion/tiger poo you`ve still got cat poo in your flowerbeds though... :D

Don`t bother with the poo, just get the lion. The cats, dogs, foxes, noisy neighbours and so on will soon f*** off, or be eaten.
