Page 1 of Recommend me a good book......!
General Forum
I`ve been getting into books these past few weeks and am wondering if anyone can recommend me any good `uns? Im currently reading Alan Alda`s `Never have your dog stuffed` which is a great biography. I do like biographies and used to read a lot of Stephen King and yet not much of a horror fan!?! I like Sci-Fi and adventures so does anyone have any recommendations at all....??
Many thanks........! 8)

I`ve just recently read a couple of thrillers by Stephen (I think) Leather - quite topical subject matter and a cracking pace to the storyline. I can happily recommend him.

The Time-Traveller`s Wife - Audrey Niffenegger (sci-fi)
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski (mindf*** of epic proportions)

Any of Terry Pratchetts Discworld series.
Harry Harrisons Stainless Steel Rat series.
If you`d like a grown up sort of LOTR try Stephen Donaldsons Chronicles of Thomas Covenant

The Belgariad series is much better - by David Eddings.

Never really liked autobiogs, and never had much time for the bloke, but was bought "Peter Kay`s Sound of Laughter" for Christmas. Absolutely brilliant, very highly recommended.
Apart from that, any Pratchett Discworld book as already mentioned, any Jeffrey Deaver r James Herbert should help pass the time.
Damage Done: Twelve Years Of Hell In A Bankok Prison, by Warren Fellows
Awesome book, they usually have it in HMV for £2.99 aswell. It`s quite a short book aswell.
A few of my mates started talking about it on holiday last year saying they never read books but couldn`t put it down, so I got it when I got back and I`ve borrowed it to other people who have loved it aswell.

In 1978 Warren Fellows was convicted of heroin trafficking between Thailand and Australia. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Bang Kwang prison - better known as the Bangkok Hilton. It was the beginning of 12 years of hell in a place where sewer rats and cockroaches are the only nutritious food, where prison guards laugh as they deliver pulverising blows and where the worst punishment is the khun deo - solitary confinement, Thai style. The Damage Done is one man`s story of an unthinkable nightmare. It is not Warren Fellows` plea for forgiveness nor his denial of guilt, but a story of endurance and survival and the abuse of human rights during the decade of a life wasted in leg irons. It is an essential read: hearbreaking, fascinating and impossible to put down.
