Hi, ive been thinking about doing something different this year and going to butlins at christmas.

what is butlins really like as ive never been there!
and which is the best resort to go to?

We took the niece and nephew to the Minehead Butlins about 6 weeks ago,they loved it.
The accommodation is ok nothing brilliant but ok,they have good entertainment for both children and adults.
Overall it`s pretty expensive for what it is but kids love it.

I havent been but a friend went -on the gold (?) standard and said it was very good, plenty to eat and plenty to do.

The Minehead one is right on the beach and has an all-weather pavilion -in the style of Center-over-priced-parcs.

go out of season its less pricey... good value if you have kids... but be warned they do cater for hen party types on short weekend breaks!

went to skegness just out of season and it was fantastic, was a bit dubious at first and i wanted to slap a couple of redcoats but the entertainment was fantastic, load to do for any age.
only problem i noticed was that alot of the more popular shows were packed out and you needed to go really early to get seats.

Off topic, but I went to Pontins a few times as a kid, the one in Prestatyn (sp?).

It is also the one that `Holiday on The Buses` was filmed at and when I went there almost 20 years later, almost nothing had changed, it looked exactly the same, which says more about holiday camps than I ever could.

It was exactly the bloody same..except for less bawdy picture postcard humour, that is......

Went to Minehead a couple of years back in March for a 60s weekend. It was my first time & it was great. What really surprised us was the food, being vegetarian we get used to slop & salad but the choice was extremely good & it tasted good as well. All in all a good weekend & we`d do it again.

Went to Butlins in Filey in 1978. Someone stole my Six Million Dollar Man. Nuff said. ;)

1966 minehead brill might have changed a bit now eh
