Composer Poll

Mark Oates (Reviewer) posted this on Sunday, 28th August 2005, 23:54

I`ve voted for the late, great Jerry Goldsmith. I know I`m being really iggerant here, but who the hell`s James Newton-Howard and what`s he scored to elicit 20 votes?

Almost an impossible choice obviously, as everyone has their merits, but I went for `Other` purely because Bernard Herrmann wasn`t mentioned.

Have a look here for more about James Newton-Howard.
Personally, would have also listed Michael "The Piano" Nyman.

LB2

Have you tried switching it on........?

Thanks, LB2. Nothing particularly stands out on that list but I`ll keep an ear out. ;)

Hulks beaten me to it. Where is John Barry.

James Bond. 007 anyone?

As well as many other films over the years. How could we all have missed him when the call went up for poll subjects.

And only 2 votes for Lalo Schifrin, the man behind the music in Bullet.

I must say their are names here I`ve never heard of, I feel rather ashamed being a big film music buff.

No Harry Gregson-Williams? >:(

Saying that, his work on the score of the game series "Metal Gear Solid" surpasses that of his Bay/Scott cinematic achievements (which I enjoy, too).

EDIT: Poor Alan Silverstri, not one vote despite Back To The Future. He`s quite the jobbing composer.

Well one of them was mine.
I may not follow this field closely but every time I used to think that was a great score and sit there long enough for the credits to get that far it was always this guy.

An honourable mention for Ry Cooder just for Paris Texas

Yay! One of my polls!

Obviously couldn`t put all of them on there so just did the most prominent ones I could think of... can`t believe I forgot John Barry though.

I voted James Newton-Howard as he is by far the best composer in the business today. Nearly all of his music is fantastic and he doesn`t stick to a single style or self-plagiarise over and over (*cough* John Williams *cough*).

Damn, forgot John Powell as well :(

Only the 2 of us Snaps, maybe some more later on.The music fits in perfectly with the shots from the opening credits you mentioned, I especially like the music in the build up to the car chase.
