Gas Provider Advice

flyingmonkey (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 16th October 2004, 11:57

Hi

We are looking to switch from using British Gas as our gas provider as they have just hiked prices up 12%.

Does anyone know of any decent and reasonable providers out there?

Thanks

Nick

I`m with Scottish Power, and pay £70 per month for Gas & Electricity. It`s also price capped until July 2006. Suits us just fine as we have quite a large house. 3 Bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom. 9 radiators and a gas fire.

You`ve gotta love that. They put their prices up twice in a year (the second time by something like 9%), then proudly proclaim that prices are fixed for a year and a half! >:(

I used www.uswitch.com/ a few months ago which suggested rather than give British Gas £25pm and Scottish Power £20pm I should just give Powergen £33pm, which is it what I do :) The change over was quick and painless.

Look here and
here if you don`t believe me.

I was with Scottish Power up until about 3 months ago so know full well that they did increase prices and have done so since I left.

You probably haven`t noticed an increase because you pay an estimated bill each month, but trust me, you are paying more than you were las tmonth.

You are right to go with Powergen. They give the best price, haven`t increased their price (yet), and best of all you get clubcard points for every £1 you pay!

Have to agree with others - Powergen are the best at the moment IMHO. The dual fuel deal is especially good, and we have had no problems with them at all, despite being forcably transferred to them when they took over amarada who we changed to about 3 years ago

Just a word of warning on Powergen - they have been bought out by a German company and will be hiking their prices very soon (insider info....)
