Olic takes drugs = No Ban. Ferdanand doesn`t take drugs = 8 month ban.

This is pi*sing me off. A quote from a football site today. This proves there is one law for the UK & one for everywhere else.

"Croatian striker Olic escapes drugs ban"

"THE CROATIA striker Ivica Olic has tested positive for a banned substance but will be allowed to continue playing at Euro 2004, UEFA revealed yesterday.

Olic tested positive for methylpresnisolone after his team's Group B match against France on Thursday in which he came on as a 73rd-minute substitute.

UEFA's control and disciplinary committee decided, however, that Olic had not done anything wrong and cleared him to continue playing. Croatia's final Group B match is against England in Lisbon tonight.

Olic suffered a rib injury during a warm-up game against Denmark on 5 June and was given a pain-killing drug which contained methylpresnisolone.

The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) was fined 6,600 for failing to comply with the correct doping procedures. The HNS has three days to appeal against the fine.

The 24-year-old Olic has played in both Croatia's Euro 2004 matches, being substituted at half-time in their 0-0 draw with Switzerland and coming on in the 2-2 draw with France.

After finishing as top scorer in the Croatian League for two successive seasons, first with NK Zagreb and then Dinamo Zagreb, Olic moved to CSKA Moscow in 2003. First capped by Croatia in 2002, he made his mark in the World Cup finals that year, scoring for his country in their 2-1 win over Italy."

Not sure they are the same thing at all.

Ferdinand was found to have decided to avoid taking a drugs test for a few hours by leaving the premesis, a suspicious action which leaves the suspicion that he may have had something in his blood stream he wanted time to get rid of.

Olic was tested positive for a banned substance, which was directly linked to a pain killing drug. He did however commit to a test.

Is it fair to hold Olic responsible for this? Not unless the physios told him that this pain killing injection would break UEFA rules. So the HNS is at fault, and hence gets fined.

The points RJS makes are very valid, but the FA committee that punished Rio didn`t seem to think along quite the same lines. During their appeal they accepted that Rio Ferdinand hadn`t taken any drugs and, therefore, hadn`t missed his test in order to escape being found out. He was punished because rules is rules and Rio broke them.

Had the panel that punished the Croatian player thought along similarly blinkered lines, he could have been in much more trouble.

I agree with RJS.

Olic had a clear audit trail of stupidity laid beind him and was fined thusly.

Ferdinand, on the other hand, had no audit trail, just stupidity, which landed him in the crapper.

In my opinion for one the most expensive players in the world playing for arguably the biggest club in the world, to miss a drugs test is just inexusable.

In the Olic case it was not a banned substance, it was just that the Croatian FA forgot to tell UEFA hence the Croatian FA get fined, it was their fault. In the ferdinand case he decided to go off shopping, hence it was his fault, and he got banned. Simple. ;)

Sadly this topic just turned into an anti Manchester United one.
I`m sure the replys would have been different other teams were involved. However.

FACT. Rio proven totaly innocent of drug taken but banned for 8 months.
FACT. Olic took a banned substance (don`t tell me they didn`t know what was in the medicine, IT`S THEIR JOB TO KNOW). & still allowed to play.

The commentators stated more or less as much during the Croatia match last night & Talk radio came to the same conclusion as I.

How the hell have you managed to make this anti-man utd claim?

The only comment that could be attributed is the comment where he is playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Well, I am sorry, but this is 100% correct. When you are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and you break the british transfer record for a player then you expect that player to have the sense to undertake a test rather than go shopping FACT!

The stance would be the same if it were Liverpool, or Southend United, only maybe a little les publicised if the latter!

Paull, it seems to me that it is YOU that wants to turn this into an Anti Man U thread, nobody else.

At no point have I read any anti man u statments in this thread. I did not realise everyone HAD to agree with you.

Any man u feeling that are out there are usually brought on by your own fans constatly bleeting on about how every one hates them (I personally could not give a s***e either way) and how they are treated so badly all the time (thats bollox too)

As I said befor, get over it or I will have to bring up how leicester were conned out of europe by the dodgy back hander ref, when he sent off (larry) Grayson for taking a free kick to early >:(
