For WC Fields it was Philadelphia. For King George it was Bognor. My Mum`s is Southport and my global sh*thole is St Annes On Sea. Where`s the last place on Earth you`d care to find yourself?

Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession.
I have come to realise that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.

Oran in Algeria. Went there once on a work trip for a couple of weeks. You never see any women as they are made to stay indoors covered up head to toe despite the blistering heat. No French is spoken even though they can speak it. English is forbidden. Police have to be constantly bribed with cigarettes to stop arrest and they `worship` every two hours (NIGHT & DAY) being called to prayer by siren. The hotel staff take all your belongings as soon as you leave your room and the airport is so corrupt that they don`t let you onto the plain until they have effectively mugged you and removed anything of value. I feel pretty confident that it would make Batavia`s estate seem like paradise... :p

I would have to say, my hell on earth would be.... England!
Poole Bus Station, 29 March 1986 after seeing NewOrder and being unable to secure a B&B and having to wait three hours in the cold waiting for an overnight National Express coach to Gatwick, so I could pick another coach up to St Albans, where I lived at the time.

"I would have to say, my hell on earth would be.... England!"
Why do you say that Spooky?? Just interested as I feel that, having travelled a fair bit (albeit in tourist areas most of the time), and having seen the ways that different people live, I still feel we have a great place to live. I go to work, work as hard as I can, and do fairly well....there are countries that you would have to work 3 times as hard for 10 times less! :(
Please explain - and don`t get me wrong, I am feeling very desperate about certain things that are happening here in Blighty, however, I say proudly "I love England".
As for my hell on earth it would have to be, through personal experience on our honeymoon, Mexico City. Horrid place where we stuck out, due to the fact that we weren`t both sporting Handlebar Moustaches", a bloody mile and we felt like we had some government agency on our backs - and felt threatened everywhere we went...

RE: Where`s Your Hell On Earth?
I`ve travelled round quite a bit of England now and everywhere I`ve been something bad has happened to me.... yet wherever i`ve been in the States I have had nothing but good experiences and great times!
One example: I went to see Bruce Springsteen at Crystal Palace... my wallet was stolen, some idiot spilt beer all over me and had ketchup spilt on me. I also went to see Bruce Springsteen in South Carolina and not only was I interviewed on the local radio, given loads of free stuff and managed to get a good close view of the stage, I also bumped into Bruce himself as I was wandering round to find a taxi!
I am not patriotic at all... I HATE England and really wish I could up and move to the good ol` US of A :D
Romford or Screbden....sorry Debden.
