Did the Oscar DVD Screeners get banned?

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Wednesday, 14th January 2004, 22:20

I heard before Xmas that the MPAA were trying to ban Oscar DVD Screeners, and I`m assuming that they did enforce this as I`ve not seen any screeners floating around the web like there usually is this time of year.

Can anyone confirm if they did ban it?

Definatly no ban on screeners yet mate. Ive seen everything Haggis has listed and more.

Haggis - theres a RoTK that may aswell be a screener out (in my room) there.

Dont think they could ever impose a ban on them but instead try to tighten security around them

OK, but they aren`t DVD Screeners are they? Not to the quality of previous years anyway, it seems you`re talking about screeners ripped from VHS`s.

From the list I know you can get DVD-Rips or DVD Screeners of these ones already...
Seabiscuit
X-Men United
Monster
Triplets of Belleville
Radio
Matchstick Men
American Splendor
City of God
Thirteen
Lost in Translation
Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl
Finding Nemo

:)

There are some VCD screeners it appears (like Big Fish) and a top quality version of Kill Bill (but not a DVD-Rip as far as I`m aware) as well. But like I said, its the DVD Screeners I`m interested in; purely out of curiousity of course.

didn`t they just ban the screener on dvd in the end, but allowed them on video with a code to identify the recipient. A couple of oscar voters look to be in hot water as their copies have appeared on the net.
