Page 1 of Fray Bentos Pies that you bake in the tin - Love them or hate them . . .

I personally used to love them 30 years ago as a child , I recently tried one and thought they were rank.

I always thought the best bit was the soggy pastry under the lid....yummmy.

Havent tried one for years and i dont think i really want to anymore..............

I always seemed to find the minuscule fragment of kidney they`d stick in them - eyuk!

A good tip is to carefully take them out of the tin and place tin in recycling box carefully depositing pie in dustbin/toilet and go down the chippie

Sue, is this before or after its been cooked?

P.S. What do you suggest getting from the chippie? Spam fritter & chips maybe?

Used to love these, not had them in ages. Remember the little meat puddings in tins too?

still love them but always seemed to burn the pastry on top and never properly cook the base of the pie.....

i still get these pies (S & K) after 20 odd years, but the meat content seems to have decreased. Have you ever managed to get you pie out of the tin and on to your plate the way it is on the tin? :)
The mince and onion is crap but i`ve got a chicken curry pie in the cupboard that i`ve still to try. :/

I too have the debilitaing problem of soggy pastry.The base is always raw and the top is burnt.....it keeps me awake at night....
