Stuff wasps, did you see those ants today?

bloody HUGE buggers, about a centimetre and a half in length. All over the bloody place, then there`s the flying buggers, getting in your eyes, ears, up yer nose... I work in a builder`s yard and we`ve discovered that the flying ones like treated timber, so when you pick up a longth of 4x2 and hoist it on your shoulder, 5 seconds later, the s***s are crawling down the back of your neck.

At least the local birdlife had a feast.

I`m sure on some documentary I saw somewhere they said they sit underground until a certain level of humidity and temperature is reached, then they go go go go! Which is why they all swarm together.

Hey, I saw a few of these as well! (North Lincs area) I`d heard that they all swarm on the same day too.The big ones you see are the flying ones that have landed and shed their wings. These are the queens to start a new colony...

...Next on Open University, marrow mangling for beginners.

It was bloody humid here, actually. So hot in fact I was sweating water. Not sweat, which is salty, but odourless, tasteless water. I reckon my T-shirt (Travis Perkins hot green colour) was about a kilo heavier when I peeled it off after work...

LOL I was down in London visiting some friends... Its the first time I have been there at this time of year and I had never even seen this phenomonon before !! My friends informed me that it happens every year for a few days and I was like "Really ??"

Suppose its one advantage of rainy Manchester weather. as I have never seen any of the little blighters flying around in such large numbers ! In fact I don`t think that I have seen a single flying ant round here....
