Nope Tandy got bought out by another company, and I think it was Carphone Warehouse that bough them. Maybe someone else can confirm this in a honest matter.

Yup, definitely been bought up by CPW, which is a darned shame because even though their stores never seemed to have anything in them you could ALWAYS find the lead or connector you wanted.

I rang Tandy a while back whilst I was hunting out an obscure remote control (and if anyone`s got one for a Sony SLVE8 UV VCR please get in touch !!!) and the bloke who answered said "Sorry, we can`t do mail order any more as we`ve been bought out by Carphone Warehouse". I asked him if that meant the High Street stores would close and he replied "Yup". I relayed how disappointed I was, and he seemed pretty gutted too. This was last Summer.

As if to hammer the point home, the Tandy in Nottingham`s Broadmarsh Centre finally closed in December, and has reopened as a lush new CPW outlet. (So that`s two CPWs in Nott`m and nowhere to get essential AV stuff from in the centre of Nottingham)

Damned shame - I really will miss them. Their catalogue was nearly as good as Maplin`s.

Clayts, as most Sony equipment uses the same remote codes I might be able to help out...but I don`t think we have one for an E8.

Lemme know if ya find out...I`m sure there`s a couple of extras kicking around the storeroom that could be sold under "Specials" codes.

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!

Jimbo - the E8 was probably the predecessor to the SLVE series (733 and that lot) so one of those MAY just work.

Let me know what`s kicking around ! The one Martin Dawes gave me with the VCR is total cack and never worked properly. The One 4 All I`ve got only does half a job and won`t let me access the menu.

No major panic, cos the vid lives in my bedroom, but it`s useful to have a backup VCR when two things clash at the same time as me watching something else (as I have obscure TV tastes - e.g. like a lot of C4/BBC2 documentaries) this tends to happen a lot !

Tandy have been partially brought out.

Maplins brought the components side of Tandy

You will notice that Maplins stores are appearing near to where Tandy stores used to be.

It`s interesting what you`ve been saying and that`s obviously why we now have a Carphone Warehouse in our town where Tandy used to be. I also agree that they were crap, apart from the obscure things that other electrical chainstores didn`t have.

I heard that Tandy stores will all be shut down or turned into carphone warehouse stores, bar a handful of the most profitable stores. (On TheRegister a week or so back)
