I have had some DVD disk packs from them and had no problems at all .The delivery was ok / not the fastest but complete and in good condition and packed well.And no payment problems.
If my memory serves me they arrived within 2/3 weeks [ posted the order so that can take a while to get to them .]

RE: Athlon cooling advice

Hi

I run an Athlon xp 1600 and it only gets to 34 / 40 degs for the Cpu. And the motherboard 24 / 32 degs .
I have 2 case fans and the cpu an all copper heatsink and duel blade fan and the case power supply is 300watt.

Hope this is a handy guide.

RE: Processor upgrade: Advice sorely needed!

While i have not had anything to do with the brand Jetway my Iwill motherboard also would say Athlon when a duron was fitted after the first setup screen [ either jumper set or auto detect ] Either would get the speed right then you save the setting.
I have now changed to a Athlon and while its faster it seems to make a good job of running the machine as did the Duron just better video. [ more frames ]

RE: Help Problem with new Alba DVD Player!

Hi

I would check that you have got the Tv set to the correct type connection s/video/rgb / comp as using the setting for the incorrect type will sometimes give a black and white picture.Also check the dvd player is set to the correct settings and for pal not ntsc or you get odd results.

There are more than 1 version of the Alba so it may help if you say the model number.

The pace box can now do Teletext via a new download off one of the BBc channels.As for the problems you had

1/ Did you try both scarts? only one will have the RGB

2/ Was the box set for RGB ?

The teletext also has picture in picture when looking at text on some of the channels.

RE: Alba 108

Hi

I have just finished watching the Gladiator and had no problems with the main film disk and had a quick luck at the other disk which worked ok.
The film Pearl Harbor worked fine as did the other disk which i had a quick look at as well.

I would check that you are connected to the correct scart if using a tv with more than 1 as they are not all wired the same.
Or is the ntsc set on but your using a pal disk ?[ i get fuzzy text if i do that.]

I have just seen your posting and i have the Alba and the disks

Gladiator which i will try and let you know

and Pearl Harbour which is on as i type and looks ok no problems.

Are you sure you are using the correct settings [ rgb / comp ?]

my tv can do all so no problems but you can get a flickering with the wrong setting.

Anyway i will play the 2 mentioned above and will post back here the result sometime late tonight.

Alba 108 loading tray jamming?

I have the Alba 108 and mine works great so next door went to get one at Argos and theirs failed in the first few minutes with the loading tray only going halfway backin and jamming.They took it back to Argos and they said they have had a few back [ They did not say if with the same fault?] so the bloke next door picked another make and payed the difference.

I found that some play great but some dont and you get the problem you have .It may be that who ever made the disc did not make it to the standard.[ in nero you get the option to relax the standard to suite the recording ]

RE: Alba 108 - How much and where from ?

I would like to thank you all for the write up,s for the Alba 108 as my REC dvd died last night [ no sign of life after turning back on and the fuses are ok.].
So it was either get it fixed or get a new one.
I decided to try the Alba 108 and while the picture is not as good [ not far off ]as the REC player it does far more like mp 3,s and the vcds with your hack.
So its the bin for the REC and the Alba is a bargain [ not tried region 1 yet ]
1/ And the remote has keys for normal fingers
2/ And no problems with the sound on any disc type [ mp3 a bit louder than the others ]
And looking very close i cant see any noise in the reds [ via scart ]on my Goodmans 28 widescreen. and sound via it or a Awia 5 speaker hifi.

RE: Argos `Digital Camera` - valid return?

I have one of the older Fuji MX 1200 and to cut the cost of the batteries use the rechargable nimh with the larger 1300 to 1600 mah size AA.

On some websites you can get the charger and the batteries for around £18 but if you pay more you can get faster chargers [ 2hr or so ]

I use a card reader for the uploading not the camera on batteries or use the makers only mains adapter [ cheaper usually to get a card reader ] £20 to £30 around.

Warning if the batteries cutout when uploading or picture taking you can damage the card.And as for Argos i dont think they will accept the return.

It was only £29.99 no screws or software.
I have had no problems with the drive or bigpockets [ fast delivery ]

RE: Printer Problem...

Hi

Printers have a chrome slider bar the print head assemble runs on and it sounds like the oillite bushes have dryed out /felt pads so apply a small amount of oil by hand on the slider bar [ dont get any on the feed rubber roller.]Then have it track left and right a few times and if that does not fixit something else must be damaged as well.

PACE digital set top box latest

There is a new update for the pace via a bbc channel which gives the box teletext / plus other items.

Takes about 10 mins downloading and 2/3 mins flashing .

And it seems to work well.

I have the cheapest one that Lektropacks do at around £50 and it works well and has 2 channels and phono plugs for all[ would need an adapter for a scart [ they also sell them or maplin does ].It has stereo sound and the picture is very good . [ you do get some interferance from microwave ovens ]They are small with a square flipup antenna.

RE: Troubles with Widescreen TV

Hi

I have the 28 inch Goodmans from comet [ about 2 years old now ] and it sounds like either you have the sharpness set too high on the set or if your dvd player has multi sharpness settings try a lower one .It a bit like digital cameras and their pictures too much sharpness and the picture gets odd effects.You should find that you can set the tv for dvd and tv live without changing the sharpness for each one [ ie one setting for all ].

To check if its the tv look at the text in adverts to see the edges for odd effects.

Remember to save the new setting?

If you adjust the explorer security setting up or down you may find it starts to work then put it back as it was .Or if using PC cillin anti virus either adjust it`s settings or try AVG the free one, that does not give that sort of problem [ yet ]

RE: Pace,s new Digital box from Comet.

Hi again

The news 24 is in widescreen but the others are usually normal in the manual it mentions settings for widescreen tvs and letter box or normal.I have not tried any other remotes yet but the one that came with it is not bad.[ very much like the Deawoo videos remote in size and button layout.
The unit runs slightly warm after 2 hours use .The sound is good with no hum at all.
It does not have a card slot but does have a socket for an extra chip like the one in the other socket inside the flap under the unit.It does say it can be updated via some channels it lists in the manual.
The power supply is a 13 amp plug type and runs cool.

Pace,s new Digital box from Comet.

I have just recieved the new box and i did have a slight problem at first with my Goodmans 28 widescreen .I had to unplug it then reconnect and then the setup screen was ok and no more problems.The picture is great and works in RGB OR S/VIDEO OR COMP you can adjust the sound to match your Tv .The colours are very good no funny patterns .It is far better than i was expecting.

My normal tv reception is not very good so i was supprised that it works so well here.

Keep up the good work Pace .
