Any recommended budget players to play VCD`s?

Rich Lansdowne (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd January 2001, 16:05

I own a mini-DV camcorder with i-link. I have just got a new Sony PC with an i-link port and DV-gate software etc & a CD-writer.

I have been told that with this PC set-up I should eb able to create VCD`s and play them on a DVD player. I don`t have any experience with VCDs so would be interested in any opinions on whether this is worth the effort.

Do most DVD players handle VCDs or are there very few?

Thanks,
Rich.

Most handle VCD, some handle SVCD (better picture).
A good budget DVD/VCD player is the Aiwa XVD-370 (check other threads)

OK, this is a bit off-topic, but I have a Sharp VL-PD3. It has now been superseded by the VL-PD6. The VL-PD3 is great, cheap, good picture, small but a major gripe I have is no external mike option. The VL-PD 6 has this fantastic `zooming` mike which is worth a great deal. The other thing is the mine will work in low light but not no light- not really up to too much `spying`.

So..... are you planning to make VCD`s?

Rich.

I have a Mico which plays VCD/SVCD fine. A lot of DVD players will play VCD but not on CD-R`s.

I have friends with a Toshiba and Panasonic and both will only play them on CD-RW

I had a friend buy me some VCD films in Hong Kong and they cost $15 each which is about £3 each!!

Try the Napa from www.jungle.com I bought one last month and its brill.
Its portable too and can play mp3s on cdrs at over 650mb thats nearly 11 hours of music. It can also play vcds on cdrs. I use it along side my proline 1000 which cannot play cdrs.

BRILEY, if you are saying the VCDs were Hong Kong $15, that`s around £1.40(approx). But VCDs are a cheap format. But possibly you could have looked to your friend to get some DVDs (way cheap, start as low as £3.50(around). Cheaper if you look around ;¬) ). People looking for VCDs, don`t bother with rip off companies, look towards compnies such as http://www.dddhouse.com and http://www.oneasia.com , you might find something you like at http://www.yesasia.com aswell . Seen places selling a tenner a piece. (is this wide of the mark of the question in general?)
