Cheap widescreens.

londonbabe (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd January 2001, 11:33

I want a 28" widescreen TV - i also want change left over from £500. Even better if i can get one for under £400 or £300.

The question is which one?
I`ll not touch anything with Bush or Sanyo on the label.

Can anyone tell me the cheapest price/supplier for that Hitachi, or cheapest Thomson (which model is it?).
Are they any good?
Then again is the wharfedale 890 any good?

Is there a dvdreviewer type website for tellys?

I have a Matsui 32WV2DP (which as the name suggests is a 32" Dolby Pro-Logic Widescreen - which also includes a smoked-glass fronted two-shelf cabinet). I bought it directly from Dixons about 6 months ago for £429. Not sure if they still do it - and it was not in their shops. Guess it would be worth checking their website/phone. The TV supports PAL 50/60 and NTSC 4.2. It has two scart sockets - each supporting RGB or configarable S-VHS input. Front phono`s/ear-phone sockets too. The picture isn`t bad either! Includes fast-text and automatic or manual picture sizing. Send me an e-mail if you want further info. subcg[at]ku.oc.esilatot

Hope this helps.

Take a look at the following websites for good prices for TV`s etc :

www.intersaver.co.uk
www.unbeatable.co.uk
www.qed.co.uk
www.empiredirect.co.uk

Once you have a part no for the TV you really want you could go to www.pricerunner.com and enter it and it will search for best price for you.

The Thomson 28VK25US you should get for about £430 or the cheaper Thomson 28WS22U for about £340 - check the specs though.

I`ve had a Hitachi TV & Hifi etc in the past and thought the quality was excellent - never had any problems with either of them. Not sure about the Thomson (Used to be Ferguson) or Wharfedale build quality. You could get a good brand for a little over £400.

Hope this helps, enjoy.

Toby.

oh god if Thomson is Ferguson then I`ll avoid them. I had a ferguson once and it used to randomly change the volume and colour levels. utter crap.

They don`t, it`s now a 32WN03, but it`s very similar.
Oh and the stand is £50 extra...the Dixon`s boys probably just added it to the price when you bought it..check your receipt for two items!

not a bad telly though, and Thomson have improved Ferguson quality something else LondonBabe! They`re actually not too bad!

Depends on whether you want a 32" or 28" though..lemme know!

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!

Hooray! Someone else (Jimbo) who has actually heard/seen of my telly - i.e. the Matsui 32WV2DP). It appeared on the Dixons web-site for only about 1 month at £429 - definately included the stand - i..e. the stand was NOT charged for at an additional £50. I bought it from the Cambridge store after mentioning the `net price. Funny old world `cos the non-Dolby version of it was some £70 more in store at the time. But the store honoured the `net price and I was one happy customer! Any other information on this set Jimbo would be much appreciated. Like who actually made it; tube maker etc etc - cheers!
