When are you too old to play computer games?

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 14th December 2010, 22:55

Hello,

I turned 40 this year and still get excited playing computer games :o

Should i not be over this now? All my mates are boring old farts, reading books and getting a good nights sleep while i still game, listen to trance/dance music, watch animation and act like a big kid. :p

I will take on any of you young whipper snappers at Tekken or VF and will beat you up easily 8)

Do i need to grow up?

Just because they chose to get old doesn`t mean you have to.

You`re too old when you`re no longer any good. I`ve got a few years left in me yet.

You`re too old when your over 15, mentally, which means every male that ever lived can play until they prise the controller from his cold dead fingers.
Ladies put your own limit on as I wouldn`t presume, never having understood you lot anyway.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

I think there`s threads here which mention grandparents playing Brain Training and the like.

On another forum I remember reading some-one in there 60s looking for computer games to play, and someone old than that replying he liked FPSs. By his own admission he didn`t play online death matches as his reflexes weren`t fast enough, but I think there`s probably 20 year olds thinking same thing :)

I remember when I was a kid, my mum and dad would sometimes have a quick go on computer games to keep me company/entertained, they weren`t any good, but I`d imagine this day and age, there`s more parents growing up with computer games, and grandparents even, that can enjoy playing games, so video games are less and less something just for kids. Although tabloids obviously still think all computer games are for kids, and are damaging them :(

you`re too old to play computer games, when you`re too old to read, watch tv, play board games etc, i.e. when you physically can`t.

When you stop seeing the game, and just see the stats that need to be upped to get to the next level.

I saw 40 a couple of years past, I still enjoy a good FPS.
As long as it`s based on actual events (WW2/`Nam/Iraq/whatever).
Have no time for fantasy/zombie/alien FPS games.
And online gaming does my head in, I avoid that.

You`re missing out on some of the genre`s bests by ruling out those styles.

They may be good games per se, but if I don`t enjoy the content/scenery/storyline it`s going to taint my experience.
Honestly, I don`t care how good it is as a game, the first time some 8 foot tall alien/zombie comes at me with fire coming out of its eyes, I`m just going to lose all interest. :(
I need realism in a game, basically.
It`s the same with driving games.
Give me a realistic one, I`ll have fun.
Give me one where it`s some imaginary race-track with loop-de-loops on the planet gob, I`ll throw the controller down.
