Anyone know which game this is referring to? Sounds intriguing.

Only Sony PR people and the development team know by the sounds of it. He was told to keep it a secret even after E3 when it was not announced.

So no, only pure speculation. It could all be balls though as anybody could say that they have seen something secret, they`re not to talk about. ;)

Is that the time? Damn you Xbox 360!!!!

I don`t think any game announcement is going to help the PS3. Sony`s biggest ongoing cockup, much as I hate to see Microsoft benefit from it. :/

I dunno, recent reports ps3 is doing rather well:

MGS4 Dominates June NPD, Drives PS3 SalesQuote:

The full charts are as follows:

Nintendo DS - 783K (from 452.6K)
Wii - 666.7K (from 675.1K)
PlayStation 3 - 405.5K (from 208.7K)
PSP - 337.4K (from 182.3K)
Xbox 360 - 219.8K (from 186.6K)
PS2 - 188.8K (no May numbers given)

Quote:
1. Metal Gear Solid IV (PlayStation 3, Konami) - 774.6K (not including hardware bundled copies)
2. Guitar Hero World Tour (Nintendo DS, Activision) - 422.3K
3. Ninja Gaiden II (Xbox 360, Tecmo/MGS) - 372.7K
4. Wii Fit w/balance board (Wii, Nintendo) - 372.7K
5. Wii Play w/remote (Wii, Nintendo) - 359.1K
6. Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360, EA) - 346.8K
7. Mario Kart (Wii, Nintendo) - 322.4K
8. Lego Indiana Jones (Wii, LucasArts) - 294.5K
9. Lego Indiana Jones (DS, LucasArts) - 267.8K
10. Lego Indiana Jones (PS2, LucasArts) - 260.3K

There were some other figures I saw where Wii and DS were way out front, but PS3 was next quite ahead of 360, actually thinking about it, they were Sony figures saying how in less time on sale, they have sold more units than 360. But I know quite often those figures are v manipulated, and have to be taken with a handful of salt, especially as some companies definition of "shipped" is "shipped to retailers" others "shipped from retailers into the publics hands"

I woold imagine now a lot of ps3 buyers, especially those recent ones, could well be 360 owners who want to play MGS so a ps3 for it.

I`m still undecided

edit: just found these, Sony must be doing something right :)
Wikipedia, stats from NPD

it`s interesting, that once again in most countries the 360s greatly outsells PS3, but Japan`s sales make quite a difference to the worldwide picture.

I wonder how many of those people bought a PS3 as a blu-ray player though...

Also it would be interesting to see the average no of games sold per console for each of the top 3.

I think there is a large percentage of PS3 owners who actually bought one mainly as a blu-ray player.
But then a lot of those owners may then think "perhaps I should try the games" - which can only be good for those of us who really want it as a games console as well. Since its encouraging sales and developers will see a large user base to try and appeal to.

The Xbox 360 I believe was relatively easy for a lot of devlopers to port their skills to develop games (given its similarities with PC development). Given that the PS3 is a completely different platform you can imagine that they (the developers) may not be willing to take a risk until there is a proven customer base.

With things like "Home" and "Little Big Planet" on the way, I think the PS3 will gain broader appeal with the non-hardcore gamers...which again can only help the cause.

Hopefully given time, the situation with games will continue to improve. Its already a lot better than it was when it was first launched...just hope that it gets even more impressive.

I did have all 3 consoles. But recently decided to sell my 360 as to be honest i used it the least out of the three. The PS3 is a far better overall home entertainment system, at the end of the day that is what the PS3 and the 360 are being sold as, its not just about the games anymore!! You have to also take in to account that the 360 does have a good lead time against the PS3, so give it another year and i reckon the PS3 will be excelling in all modes! There is nothing wrong with their gaming titles, there is just a sad lack compared to the 360, and there is still alittle bug working to do! But i know i made the right choice getting rid of a console that is really a ticking time bomb, and turning out to be quite lack lusting! Even the girl i spoke to at Microsoft (after i had to return it for the 2nd time due to TRR) admitted the PS3 was a decent console that was going to give the 360 a decent run for its money. Maybe if they bring a blu ray drive out for the 360 and actually start to develop games to fit on HD discs then the 360 may have the same future scope that i believe the PS3 will have in buckets!!

TBH I couldn`t be happier with my 360, but then I bought it as a games console. If a blu ray drive was released at a reasonable price I`d probably buy it if I wanted to go BD, but only because standalone players are so expensive and not future-proof.

In terms of games the 360 p***es all over the PS3. Aside from third party titles I can honestly say I`d probably want about 3 of their exclusive titles that are out right now. It may be a better home entertainment all in one system, but like I said that`s not what I bought my console for.

MGS4 boosted the PS3 sales and rightly so, but how many other games on the horizon have that mainstream appeal? Home and Little Big Planet may wow gamers but will they significantly increase system sales?

With the 360 price cuts also happening I think MS will lead the fray again in the US over the next few months. At the end of the day though I don`t give a toss about sales figures, 2 of my fave consoles have been the Dreamcast and Saturn so as long as there are good games on the platform I`ll be happy, and the lineup for the end of the year looks just as good if not better than last year`s awesome one.
