Page 1 of PS2 old hat now that XBOX N Gamecube cheaper?

Hmmm Xbox n Gamecube, vastly superior technology and cheaper than a PS2? I believe many PS2 owners could be tempted to buy a second console at this rate and sample the new wares, leaving the PS2 in the cold. The PS2 technology is archaic compared to the competition and the user base could realise this very soon if the competition is cheaper.

Why buy a Fiesta when you can have a BMW at a cheaper price?

Well, I`m one PS2 owner who was tempted by the cheap Gamecube. Although I won`t be abandoning my PS2 altogether! I actually hadn`t really been playing on it all that much for a while, got most of the way through Vice City and The Getaway, then just lost interest for a while. Bought the Cube for a bit of a change, and the exclusives like Metroid Prime, SMB2, Zelda, Resi 0 and Mario Kart. I`ll probably get the GC version of Soul Calibur 2 over the PS2 version as well...

But the PS2 will not be abandoned, oh no. No doubt there will still be PS2 exclusive games released, or cheaper versions I can get. And I use it as my DVD player, so it`ll always have a purpose.

I get a bit sick of all this fighting amongst the console fans. I don`t own an Xbox, and I probably won`t get one (even with the price drop, a modded one is still going to be too expensive, they`re too big for my liking, and the missus would really kill me), but that doesn`t mean I wouldn`t be straight round my mate`s house playing on it if he got one.

Every console has its pros and cons, and every one has exclusive games. You pays your money, you takes your choice. And let`s not get down to the petty level of arguing about pads, FFS! These days you can get adapters to use whatever pad you want with whichever console you want, so that`s that argument out the window.

Competition is a good thing. The more consoles there are the better. Let`s all just choose our paths, appreciate the good points of ALL the consoles, and stop sniping at each other!

If we`re just talking about the hardware, there`s no argument. XBox and Gamecube are technically superior, of that there is no doubt.

But talking about the PS2 becoming obsolete at this stage is plain ridiculous. The fact is, it has a massive user base and a huge selection of games when compared to the Xbox and GC.

Other than that, I agree with Pistol.

If the culprits want to waste their time arguing over a few electrical components inside a plastic box, that`s up to them. The fact is, it really doesn`t matter if you`re holding an XBox, Gamecube or PS2 pad as long as you`re playing quality games.

Now then, I`m off to see if I can convince one of my rich mates to buy a cheap XBox - I still haven`t played Halo...

Well the question is not which of the 3 is superior, its justs whether the fact that with prices coming down, people will be tempted to buy another console, especially if you bought a PS2 over a year ago. In doing so this should boose both the Xbox and the gamecube, and probably knock back the PS2 sales a little.

I personally think both have good strengths, so would not knock either, in fact both in terms of gameplay are evenly matched, I would of still got me cheap GC from Argos if this offer was around a couple of weeks ago, because of the more child friendly nature of the games on the GC, plus the number of strikingly cheap game deals around( I mean all games £25 in Dixons!!!)

yeah right which Xbox/Cube games perform like a BMW?

I have halo and played Metroid their very good but the gap aint that great.
Neither the xbox or GC has a game to match PES2 or VIce City which is sad.

After playing

Soul Calibur 2, Indiana Jones, Vexx, VRally 3, APEX none of which blow away their PS2 competitor.

Ironduke... its all down to what you like I guess. Metroid is one of the few games I`ve had constantly in play until I finished it. GTA just doesnt grab me as a game I`m likely to sit down and play until its finished. Maybe just a quick killing spree but then I get bored.

As for the PS2 becoming old hat.... not likely. There are still many out there that dont have a console/PS2 and are going to get one because they dont know about what else is out there.

I have no problem mate but this guys is trying to make the difference look like a speccy and an amiga, which it certainly aint

PS2 is older (launched March 2000 in Japan) and therefore, programmers for it will (at least they should) know how to get the best out of the machine. So have we seen the best already in Vice City??

I feel with the latest dropping in prices both Microsoft and Nintendo are focusing on what they believe will be the killer console - Xbox 2 / GC 2...

Anyway, if you`ve got the cash then get one they`re: "Cheap as Chips!" Mind you it seams only a handful of games aren`t available cross platform...

Yes, technically GC and XBox are more advanced...... But so they should be! They came out years after the PS2!

It`s the game`s that make a console, and the PS2 still has great games available for it.

I will be buying an XBox, and I`ve already got a GC, but RossCo says above "Mind you it seams only a handful of games aren`t available cross platform..."

xbox is just a capped pc, it even uses a form of directx mate, so the programmers already knew how to program it.

It aint a new architecture like the ps2 and cube were.
