Since I ditched my Sega Mega Drive years ago, I`ve not had a console. Thought I would treat myself for Xmas but haven`t got a clue which one to buy. I fancy the idea of a DVD facility with the PS2 but that`s as far as I have got. Which console should I be buying for the best gaming experience and protection from future upgrades? Your help please.

dont bother with future proof as all of them will be 50 quid this time next year.
decide what games you like, then cross ref these with each system. which console has the most games you like wins?

Sonny, I reckon you should buy a ZX81 - A classic piece of hardware, you can pick one up from your local skip for free. Marvel at the range of colour's this technical piece of wizardry this can display (2)!! Gasp at the fantastic graphics made up of blocks.
Forget the Cube, PS2, and Xbox. Go retro.. !!

You must have GTA Vice City.
Therefore you need a PS2.
It`s that simple!
(Before I get totally slagged, the others have their merits too - buy second-hand XBox/GameCube when you`ve finished GTA!)

You can`t go wrong with any of them mate, but if DVD is your bag then I believe the X-Box has the best playback, provided you can get a region x thingy to play region 1 discs. If not I`d go for the PS2.

The main reason I bought my PS2 was for GTA. So I FULLY recommend a PS2.

Fifa is out on all consoles for a start.
GTA is hardly a good reason to get a console. While being a bloody entertaining game its not going to last you forever. IMHO the PS2 has little else going for it if you arent a football/driving fan.
Xbox has a few very nice games out. Halo and Quantum Redshift are both very impressive. Splinter Cell looks to be a good one. Also has the advantage of being able to play 4 player games out the box (obviously with extra controllers) and now the excuse of them being too bulky has been blown out the window with the new, smaller, Controller S.
As for the GC... dont believe the BS about it being for kids. Unless being an adult means that fun can go take a long run off a short cliff. Bright colours? Oh well. Cute characters? S*** happens. Amazing gameplay? Damn straight. Alright... so you cant play DVDs. Then get a DVD player!
