PS2 info needed.

Soprano (Competent) posted this on Friday, 8th November 2002, 16:24

My PS2 is being delivered to me this week. PES2 and Vice City also on the way.

I need a remote control, a memory card and a Region X thingy. There seems to be a few good items on play.com.

Which are the best options?

Hi there

I bought myself the DVD Advantage pack from Amazon.co.uk. With that you get DVD Region X, scart cable and a remote. Not bad for £14.99.

Not sure about memory cards though.

I see Play.com has a "Region Free" for £7 which is very cheap.

But I really don`t know how to answer your question Soprano, because its just a question of searching around for the best price. http://www.softwarefirst.com are always a good bet for cheap prices, so check `em out.

Datel`s Action Replay 2 v2 also incorporates a region free DVD function. It costs a lot more (£30, although I got mine from a computer fair for £20), but it is the most comprehensive cheat cartridge available. Depends what you want really.

For those who will say "cheats never prosper" - I totally agree, and I can (nearly) honestly say I have never used cheats to complete a game. But the AR2 can do things it is otherwise impossible to do in most games, which can make for some quality messing around!

£15 for region free/cable (a must)/remote seems pretty good value - what`s the quality of the kit like?

Hi Pistol

The quality is decent enough, the scart cable allows you to play games in RGB which really cleans the picture up, movies come out quite nice aswell.

Can`t really comment on the remote because I have never used it (I use the official one). I think you can control your TV with it though.

Region X, you know about.

I thought £15 was a good price, considering Amazon sell Region X for £19.99 on its own. Or a least they did.

The pack is called DVD Advantage

You might just be able to answer a question that`s been really bugging me! I use the Sony remote too, and I can`t believe they didn`t include a controller passthrough on the IR receiver - doh. I`m wondering if the Sony remote will work with the IR receivers from (cheaper) remotes that have passthroughs - does the one you never use have a passthrough? Have you tested it with your Sony remote?

Hi Pistol

I am affraid it did not come with a passthough. It is a pain that Sony didn`t include one. I could really do with a passthough aswell, gets on my nerves unplugging and plugging back in all the time.

If you have any luck finding one let me know.

Play.com sell the DVD Advantage pack for £11.99 delivered.
In stock at the moment - I`ve just checked.
I see Amazon are doing it for £11.99 also, but you need to add postage (which is presumably where your £15 comes from).
