What ever had happened to SHIELD series being released in UK?

Harry_Potter (Competent) posted this on Monday, 4th September 2006, 21:15

Hi All,

Some of you may be aware of the series `SHIELD`. We were only shown series 1 and 2 in the UK. I posted ages ago ... the question of when series 3 was to be released on DVD in the UK

Everybody thought it was imminent, but never happened. Now in the US they have Series 4. Anyone know whats going on?

If unaware of program ... give it a go ... well worth watching. See link for DVDs on amazon.com ...

Shield Series 3 and 4

Thanks, Chris :)

I personally wouldn`t bother waiting for the UK releases as they seem to be going nowhere at the moment and there is bound to be at least a 6month gap between the release of each series.

Series 5 (the best series) should also be released on Region 1 in January as this is when all the other series have been released. I`m keeping an eye out on Amazon.com as you can sometimes get boxsets quite cheap on preorder from them.

Apparently it seems there will be no further releases of the shield on dvd in the UK due to its ratings disaster over here, strange how such an amazing program has so few viewers although to be fair I don`t think it`s advertised well and theres not much coverage in the papers over here. Ive just watched season 4 and it`s great but its also actually the weakest up to now and I think its due to the fact that they have to introduce Glenn closes character and build her up which takes time so just as you`re really getting to `know` her the season has to end. Can`t wait for season 5 to be released on dvd R1 I believe its the final one so would imagine its going to pull out all the stops.

I think part of the problem is it being on Channel 5.

When Channel 5 first started a lot of people couldn`t get it, those of us that couldn`t witness Channel 5 showing a load of old rubbish, and reruns from other channels, I incorrectly assumed the Shield would be rubbish so didn`t bother. It was only when several friends todl me about how good it was I started with Season 3, and so have been hooked since then.

it didn`t help when 5 messed around its scheduling, changing day and time mid season and putting a long break in mid series like US Channels do.

i think it`s like the Wire, those that know about it, know from word of mouth, and love it.

There is definitely a series 6 scheduled for January 2007 (10 episodes) and most probably the final series 7 (13 episodes) in late 2007 or early 2008 as well so plenty more of The Shield to come. :D

Yeah I`d seen there was Season 6 and 7 greenlit but

Season 5 spoiler

SPOILER:
I didn`t really want to mention (although if people are waiting they will probably find out) purely because it made the season 5 finale that much better for me because you thought anything could happen (apart from what did happen, or the way at least!) because I had been looking and although there were rumours that there was another season nothing had been confirmed.

I can`t wait for Season 6, although its good news there is a Season 7 I`m hoping that there is a proper story in place because Season 6 looks like it`ll be a cracker but also probably a good season to end the show.

Im glad theres more on the way. On the dvd of season 4 it shows a teaser and says its the final season. Must have changed their minds. I wonder what the shield would be like without Vicmackey after all it is called the shield and not the vicmackey show. Maybe Shane could become its `Star`. So tempted to read that spoiler but will wait till I have it on dvd, I know nothing about S5 and intend to keep it that way, although I have a friend who sometimes blurts out spoilers and hes watching S5, he ruined a couple of charcters deaths for me in 24 s2 and s3 which I only watched recently.

i think the blame for the poor viewing figures is due to Channel 5 completely neglecting the show. If you watch anything on C5 after 9pm you are guaranteed to see several adverts for House, CSI, Greys anatomy, Big Love, etc...but where are the adverts for The Shield?

Just look how they went over the top promoting Prison Break earlier this year...they advertised in every CSI commercial break, they had magazine/ billboard adverts, they repeat the show the following night and they gave up a whole friday night to repeat the first few episodes.

yet the new series of The Shield came on in mid summer with very little advertising and was pushed into the graveyard slot of 11pm on fridays (and it was on later last week).

i`m not comparing the two series (i like them both) but you would have thought they could adopt a similar marketing strategy with The Shield as they do with their other American imports.

btw, does anyone know what happened to the videogame of the series that was due out a couple of years back? (i know the gaming forum is more relevant but i just thought i would ask while i`m on the subject)
