DD/DTS/THX 5/6.1 audio test discs.

The gf is currently DL`ing some audio tests from a P2P site, you know the sort of thing: Universal intro, Terminator 2/Star Wars THX `lightning bolt` intro/logo etc. She is convinced that as they sound awsome on her stereo with sub PC set up (and admittedly they do) that if she burns the audio file (probably mp3 or PCM) it will come through in full 5.1 on the `big daddy` in our lounge. Of course it won`t because they are not AC3/DTS etc files_however_ does anyone know where I could purchase such a demo disc, preferrably with DD, DTS and THX standardDD tests? Over to 42%er? ;) _PK

If youve got any sort of DVD collection you shoud have at least one disc with a sound test on. Ive got quite a few, but the only one i can remember off hand are the star wars prequels

You can buy DD/DTS dem discs from their web sites, I think.

THX do a thing called WOW. This is not for sale though and has sold for silly money on E-bay.

All the best,

The 42%er.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

easiest way is to do a google search for THX and VOB and download the THX trailers in full 5.1 then author them to a DVD and playback through your 5:1 system. There a re about 15 trailers for general download on the web. Here`s a link

Just want to say a BIG thankyou to DVDhouse - Rob Scott for the THX/DTS/DD demo that he sent me completely free of charge! It is indeed an awesome disc and really flexes the muscles of the Marantz as well as perfect picture on the plaz. Just goes to prove what I have come to think about this site - that it is contributed to and maintained by really great people :) One unusual thing with it though: the star wars/`other` movie clip montages are in THX DTS shame George wouldn`t release any of the original DVD`s in this audio format as (IMO) It`s the best of both worlds._PK

Well, the DTS symbol lights on both my player and reciever. Probably the clips are encoded this way for the purposes of the disc._PK

yes the pod race scene fron phantom menace is in dts, obviously just a re-encode of the dd soundmix for the demo purpose. dts is still best in its full birate form ie laserdisc :)
