Its worth (depending on the job being apllied for) to get your C.V professionally compiled on a one to one session :)

RE: Any Supra owners on here??

I have been doing all things car related and in 2009/10 attending alot of gigs and just tonight thought of reviewer :) I lost the love for movies and the such a bit but have recently found the love again!

I have every format since the original Widescreen VHS versions of the early 90`s, so i guess i`ll be getting this as well. Need to get myself a blu ray player (or PS3) to play them on though.

Do you have all the versions on Laserdisc though?? ;)

Any Supra owners on here??

I have somewhat neglected this site over the years as I have had other things occupying my time! I used to be a daily visitor and have now returned and still rememberd my password :D. Just wondering if there are any MKIV Supra owners on here?

RE: Boxing day can my employer force me to work ?

As an ex retail Manager working the Saturday would seem to be pretty standard retail tactics as the shops would be open, so in answer to the question yes if you normally work a Saturday you would be expected to work. Retail is probably the worst area to work in during the Christmas period as most only shut for Christmas Day/Boxing Day and New Years Day. I used to get 30 days holiday and days in hand for the 5 Bank Holidays so could have been as much as 35!!

I only get 30 days now but 6 weeks is pretty dam good.

RE: Video Editing Software

id use Sony Vegas as thats the only software I really use ,so it would split the vob file and text or anything effects wise can be added with ease

Texting While Driving!! Gwent Police Campaign

I have just been reading on SkyNews about an anti text while driving ad made by the Gwent Police in Wales is becoming popular in the US as it has been picked up by the networks over there. I hadnt seen it here till reading the article. People dont seem detered by points and a fine for using their phones at the wheel so maybe an ad like this will change their minds. While quite graphic it shows "what could happen" and is aimed at the younger driver..

****this is quite a hard hitting campaign made by the Gwent Police****

RE: District 9

just finished watching and yes I thought it was an awesome film and thus I might have to have another viewing tonight.... Impressive :)

RE: Fuel prices..again!

Bring on another Fuel Depot blockade and motorway go slows...

Just been looking at Prices in Vancouver BC as I have a friend there and he said its cheaper than this time last year. He wasnt wrong $0.99 a litre (thats 0.55p)

No wonder they can run round in 5ltr pick ups. Nothing much is said now about the price of fuel here. I guess we just have to STFU and pay

RE: Blimey! Macrovision on VHS was one big smokescreen.

VHS 2 VHS aha those were the days .... bout 20 years ago...

I used a "Top Loader" Ferguson Videostar (the one with the big piano keys) as the recorder and it did every MV tape going, Disney, Warner, CBS/FOX, with no issues what so ever. I was " The Video King" at school haha like 23 years ago now!!!!!

RE: Newcastle

Sam Allardyce.... I think when Ashley took over from Shepherd his days were numbered anyway but his record of 8 wins 10 losses and 6 draws from 24 games nets him 30 points and they only got 34 points from 14 more games this season!!!. A bit premature in getting rid of "Big Sam" but the club must have been confident he was not the man for the job. But lets face it they were never going to win the Premiership whoever they bought in to manage the club

Unless Newcastle (which have a massive fan base and dedicated/passionate supporters) get a grip in the board room I can she a Leeds Utd slide coming which would not be good for all of football.

Putting all their hopes on Owen is like backing one of his 100/1 horses!! yer lucky to win.

RE: Will this new technology spell the slow demise of Blu-Ray??? well it be a few years off :)

i think the 2000 films bit was a guide as a simple this is how much the disc can hold data wise..... not as in multiple films on a disc, the article should have made it a bit clearer. Its about the data storage.

Typical unclear SkyNews

Will this new technology spell the slow demise of Blu-Ray??? well it be a few years off :)

Just reading on Sky News Website this morning about some scientists in Australia who have found a process to expand the humble dvd`s potential to store over 2000 films worth of data on one disc. I thought it was interesting reading and thought I would share it with you all to have a read. Quite interesting.

I knew I should have waited to put all my dvd`s to my media server ;)

SkyNews Website 11:40am UK, Thursday May 21, 2009

Technology that could see a single DVD hold more than 2000 films has been unveiled by scientists.

Thousands of films on just one CD - potentially

So-called five dimension data storage uses nanotechnology and can boost the storage potential of standard format DVDs by almost 10,000 times.

The latest development has come from a team of researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology in Australia.

"We were able to show how nanostructured material can be incorporated onto a disc in order to increase data capacity, without increasing the physical size of the disc," the research leader, Min Gu, told news.com.au.

Currently, DVDs have three data storage dimensions.

However, using nanorods made of gold, the Melbourne-based team were able to add two more - one based on the colour spectrum and the other on polarisation.

The breakthrough has meant it is now possible to record information in a range of different wavelengths at the same place on the disc.

Current DVDs record in a single wavelength, using a laser.

The relevant process is called polarisation, where nanoparticles react to light depending on their shape.

And the introduction of the new gold nanorods has meant this process can now be manipulated.

"The polarisation can be rotated 360 degrees," explained the co-author of the research, James Chon.

"We were, for example, able to record at zero degree polarisation.

"Then, on top of that, we are able to record another layer of information at 90 degrees polarisation, without them interfering with each other."

The team are still working on reducing the speed at which the discs can be written and commercial production is at least five years away.

Nonetheless, they have signed an agreement with Korea-based electronics giant Samsung.

The news comes soon after one of the largest US-based technology companies, General Electric, said it had developed a holographic disc capable of storing the equivalent of 100 standard DVDs.

RE: Florida and Space Shuttle Launch.

Well I hope to view the shuttle launch next year when I go Florida again and it will be the last chance as the last missions for the shuttle are 2010 and then they are taken out of service so catch a viewing while you can. An awesome site I guess it will be

RE: Thinking of ripping my entire DVD collection to a hard drive...

yep i suppose we all use different SW depending on our requirements. I use super mainly to edit and convert my H.264 cam footage I take at gigs I go to, Metallica being the most recent. Resizing it for youtube etc. My friend used to use divx converter to put movies on his N96 and always had sync issues but with super all was ok for me... resizing a 700avi to around 284 using res 340x280... keeps me film watchin when its slow at work :) that`s about 50 movies I can fit on me phone!!! I best get converting again :)

With all this SW results are excellent but I guess like you said it is trial and error to get the best settings and results.

RE: Thinking of ripping my entire DVD collection to a hard drive...

Quote:
I`m sure that took an age, but you`ve got a very good setup when it`s done!

well ya type in the bar code and all info is there... just the bar codes took a while i must be lazy.... So are you getting many sync issues? I use super © for everything now a days and tbh have found nothing better. I have never used handbrake so might have to have a dabble into that and see what its like.

I dread to think what my energy bill will be like at the end of this! (The wife hasn`t cottoned on to it yet).

Now that funny eh hehe :) shes a woman, I guess she will not even think about the energy till 3 months down the line when the bill comes in or ya DD goes up. Hide the bill or shread it ;)

RE: Thinking of ripping my entire DVD collection to a hard drive...

Yeah I thought I had seen earlier in the thread that the movies are in list view. Yes WMC when you add the xml file to the film folder looks mint and even gives you a synopsis of the film and all cast and crew etc etc. I use my movies application which finds the covers by bar code or by title which ever you find easier. You can select R1 covers if you prefer the look and display what content on actors you wish..... Not telling u anything u guys dont already know I guess :)

Anyone with a fair size dvd collection would think the time rippin is well worth it when yer done.

Example of the cover selection below.... that took time too :(

Done about 30 discs so far this week, and have piles and piles to do still.

Well I see you are all getting on with it..... So only about 550 left then Ben? ;)

My 300 odd seemed to take forever on my media server.

So are you all streaming through your PS3`s, I know some are but its early and canna be bothered going back a few pages. What are the pro`s and con`s of streaming it through the PS3 rather than just running straight off a media server?

What will the icons be like when you want to choose a movie, anything like WMC xml files?

On the LOTR extended editions what I did to join the two discs was convert to divx, then I used svcd2dvd to join then converted back to vobs. Only 2 or 3 clicks and didnt really take that long. As for the "flipper discs" I had Armageddon which I think is the only disc I didnt put on the HDD. Flippers at the time didnt really bother me as I was used to it with my Laserdiscs :). I will get round to doin it probs this weekend.

Anyway give us ya PS3 streaming thoughts and HAPPY RIPPING you all might be done for Christmas ;)

RE: Oh one for you F1 fans. . . .

F1 in the last few years has gone by the wayside.

Yes I seen the new points system and it seems bizare.

I would like to see it run like they do for Indy Car in the States. Same engines for all teams but just the odd different chassis tweek etc.

There is too much of a gap between Maclaren / Ferrari and the back runners to make it interesting anymore.

Mansell won his first season in Indy as he was "the best" driver down to the driver not the car.was close racing and more exciting, not just on ovals but street races too.

Me sitting at the lights in my cossie with a punked up saxo/corsa reving along side me is exactly like F1 nowadays . . . . . . . . predictable

RE: f***ing robbing scum c***s.

Like previuosly stated cant really add anymore apart from I know how it feels Doc!!

I used to live in a village in South Derbyshire...My neighbours it being an old coal mining community had lived there years etc etc with only a few couples new moving in around there. In sept 2006 I also was robbed by some low life drug using punks, There must have been two of them as they got away with.......................................................

Two Laptops
PSP with 15 games and 2 UMD
My Mobile
My girlfriends handbag ( with car keys in! )
My passport / Girlfriends passport
My girlfriends car
Leather Case with my personal things ie driving license
And some other bits and bobs.....
Video Camera
All in all I got stung for about 8 1/2k!

What got me thinking was all my A/V gear was in the lounge like 44" TV, projector, amps, Laserdisc, etcetc so Im thinking they will be back! I had my kids over that weekend and never heard a thing... I found my stuff being sold on ebay all by the same seller but after police investigation they said that the seller had bought these items in bulk!! his feedback was all consoles, games, mobiles (without chargers) think about that... and he was a car dealer. Dodgy as fook.

Anyway looking back some body must have been eyeing my property up for some while as they came from leicester and it is quite scarey as I guess You feel now DOC. I secured it up real tight and have since moved but I dont take no chances anymore. Every thing is locked and I have a good security system. Theiving SCUM... Anyway there is my story of being shafted..... sorry to hear it doc and ill add to the PP fund :)

RE: Thinking of ripping my entire DVD collection to a hard drive...

I second that with milesR

Not really worth ripping a BD movie to file, I have a BluRay/HDDvd drive in my media server and use AnyDVD/hd and have tried this once, very time consuming. I cant remember what the resulting file size was but it was still big, around 15gb if I remember rightly. The ripped files were noticably of a poorer quality ( due to compession ) than playing an original BD disc. (just enjoy BD/HDdvd from the disc)

I just stick to ripping my dvds to the HDD and have 700mb avi / divx etc etc where no noticable picture degrade is really visable.

As to previous messages in this post the software "super" I use and I really recommend. I use it for ipod conversion, converting my samsung cam gig footage, putting movies on my Nokia 96, and lots more, great software with settings galore to get your media just right for the source it is going on :)

RE: Thinking of ripping my entire DVD collection to a hard drive...

I went the media server route a year and a half back, using an Antec Case and Vista Ultimate, seemed to take forever to rip all my dvd`s haha and I only got 350! But the end result was awesome and flicking through 300 covers and picking a movie at a click is alot better for me than rooting in my cupboard.

My antec case is on the top of my cabinet in the pic....

It is definately the way to go :)

RE: Badboybez...Metallica info

I went Sheffield Arena on 28th Feb, awesome set and awesome gig. Seem the big M 4 times now and last week was deffo the best. Seen Slipknot, Megadeth and metallica in the last 3 months all at Sheffield but Metallica was awesome just beating Slipknot who were also kick ass.

I got 12 full tracks recorded at Sheffield on my Sammy cam b4 the battery ran out b4 seek and destroy!! gutted. Should not have recorded any of The Sword or Machine Head haha. Well its off to Brum for me on the 25th and I have plans to get the whole set on cam with no breaks this time, I will just edit the footage down to tracks for You Tube.

If you have been , yes it was awesome, If you are going Brum or the O2 you will not be disapointed. Battery was killer!!

My footage of Sheffield is here ---> http://www.youtube.com/dvdhouse"" target="_blank"> http://www.youtube.com/dvdhouse

PS: I have sent 3 peeps the raw footage from the night on their request so if anyone want the raw cam files msg me on YT :)

RE: Yer Top 5 best albums of the year so far are....

Slipknot - All Hope is gone

Metallica - Death Magnetic

thats it for me - Slipknot awesome @ Sheffield on Friday

RE: DVD Backup Question

It would be ok for pc as you can just choose either the avi or the dvd files to view but a standalone would spit it out and say no thank you..

The above two Optimas Argos seem to get a good revivew for the price and at £299 for the cheaper one you wont really get any better for your money. Google some reviews on them. You could also look for a nice second hand Panasonic but depends whether you want new or not

RE: Woolworths...what went wrong??

Quote:
worked for them as a Store Manager for them for 9 years...

Must be because you left they lost the talented Managers. ;)

As a Store Manager for 10 years myself, not Woolies but food retail the main things that I think have already been said ie the rise of internet buying but the main thing at Woolworths is they dont have a niche in the market anymore and seem to be a bit and bob store that sells everything and anything so you wouldnt plan to buy from there.

People now a days have busy lives and tend to want to do shopping quick and easy and if possible in one location, but in Woolworths heyday it wasnt like that.

Ladybird clothes - Excellent value but can be bought elsewhere Tesco / Asda

DVD`s / CD`s - Can be bought cheaper without leaving your armchair.

Paint / Household - If you really wanted DIY you would go Focus / B&Q

Electical - Not the best range or makes - You would go to a dedicated shop like 42% er`s;)

So on and so forth, but with the likes of Asda/ Morrisons/Tesco etc all selling the same but cheaper due to there buying power its probably only the name that has kept them going as long as they have in recent years. Its a sad day and I guess misery for many workers which isnt good. I would like to know what the current business plan was they were working too.

Ask yourself the question when was the last time you actually planned to go to Woolies to make a purchase or did you just pop in as you were in town?

The 80`s/90`s were good for Woolies as the Big Four and the net hadnt evolved yet.
