Romantic Film Recommendations, Please...

I would really appreciate it if someone out there could recommend me a good romantic film. Nothing that's going to make me cringe!

Thanks,
Adam

How about Doctor Zhivago? Its got the lot - romance, action, good story and Julie Christie looking utterly amazing. I know its quite old but imo it has aged quite well ( the ice house still looks superb).

depends on your definition of romantic. I think Before Sunrise is quite romantic as are a lot of Foreign movies but your romantic meal victim may dislike subtitles and prefer romantic films where the romantic qualities of the male lead are more important than the those of the script (e.g What Women Want starring Mel Gibson who is popular with women, film goes from him suddenly being able to read their minds to finishing with a what the heck stick to the tried and tested as the women will go see it for Mel anyway attitude). Or on the otherhand they may not.

Moulin Rouge - Bit mad but the romance element is really compelling
Monster`s Ball - Not a comedy and the romance is dead gritty... but a brilliant film with an equally brilliant ending
Amelie - Might be put off by it being French, but very funny and sweet anyway

More generic options could be:

Sleepless In Seattle - Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan... nuff said
Four Weddings... - As long as you can bear Andie McDowell
Love, Actually - Didn`t like it myself, very cheesy... women seem to like it though

"The vast majority of Iraqis want to live in a peaceful, free world...
and we will find these people, and we will bring them to justice" - George W. Bush

Call me an old softie, but I really like Untamed Heart and Benny & June

I would go with "Dr. Zhivago" too, or "Gone With The Wind".

Yes but I think he intended playing doubles not singles.
