DVD reviews

TinnionA (Elite) posted this on Friday, 9th April 2004, 09:05

I was just sondering if anyone knew of a site that collects together DVD reviews(in the way that Game rankings collects games reviews and metacritic Film, Music and Game reviews).

Metacritic says it lists DVD/Video Reviews but usually it is just a review of the film again. And before you ask, yes, I do look at the site reviews but sometimes I want more than one opinion, and when its a new release I don`t get that option here.

We only get one copy of a movie from the PR companies, so only one of us can review it. Whoever wins the mudwrestling gets the disc. ;)

Surely you let other people watch it? Or is it forbidden?

I just looked at DVDcompare - it looks interesting, thanks for the site. Not quite was I was looking for but thanks anyway.

Just out of interest checked the Matrix. So what is the big deal with headbutting? Its not like its that bad. I have seen far worse in 15s.

And another rant... how can Master and Commander ever work in pan and scan(sorry fullscreen)? I mean I brought this yesterday, watched it today and there is just so much in each shot that I don`t see how it can ever work with half the picture cut out. Thank god european publishers/distibutors are sensible is all I can say... pan and scan is for video, widescreen is for DVD.

There is a site set up by a guy over at The DVD Forums that collates reviews posted by DVD sites - buggered if I can remember the URL, though. I will have a search on the forums and see if I can find his thread...if not, try a Google search. :)

OK, searched around and found two options: this or this one (the second one looks better).

That`s just a fallacy. Discs are allocated in order of size of bribe. The mud wrestling is videotaped just in case RJS needs a little incentive to get us to accept Cherry Red DVDs. Believe me, once you`ve been mud wrestling with Mr Anil, you will do anything to keep that image out of the public domain. :o

Dammit. That`s why I keep getting the operas.

Seriously, the reviewers for this site are not all kept in a small smelly cage in the basement of DVDReviewer Towers. We`re located all over the UK. When the PR companies send discs, they go to the office and Mark and RJ allocate them to us and post them out. We agree to post our review within a timescale (our time permitting - this is a hobby not a job, and when you get an opera or a Red Cherry disc then it really is a jobby ;) - just kidding.) We could post the discs on to another reviewer for another viewpoint, but that would get expensive, make difficulties keeping track of who`s looking after what disc and delay posting the reviews. And the PR companies wouldn`t like that.
