RE: Want the best version of The Frighteners?

Ohhh, news is that they`re all gone and not expecting anymore... that goes for everywhere. One just went on eBay for £55

Wish I`d kept mine in the cellophane now ;)
Seriously though, it`s the film that counts but it is a bonus when one of your favourites is released with nice packaging.

RE: STAR WARS: EPISODE 3 Anticipation Thread (SPOILERS!!!)

The only reason I asked is because in the picture it looks as if she is dead but she still has a very large tummy!

RE: STAR WARS: EPISODE 3 Anticipation Thread (SPOILERS!!!)

Sorry if this has already been covered, as it is rather a long thread, but I thought that Amidala died in childbirth not before.

RE: STAR WARS: EPISODE 3 Anticipation Thread (SPOILERS!!!)

Apparently, someone from theforce.net has seen an un-finished version
of ep.3 and has posted a review. The article was found here.....http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news/newsstory.asp?news_id=16310
Just follow the link in the article which will take you to the forums where the
review is being discussed.
If the review is true, there are some MAJOR SPOILERS in what you are about
to read.

RE: Star Wars MVC exclusive packaging

IndianaJones00,
I don`t know if this applies to all MVC stores, but the one in Llanelli
is selling the box seperately for £9.99 :o
If you don`t mind forking out that much, you will get a very sturdy box
for your money.

RE: Schindler`s List.. Bad news its a Flipper!

Details of the R2 version has just been announced and it`s
a 2 disc set. So now you only have to change the discs instead
of flipping the disc over ;)
Seriously though, I`d much prefer 2 discs instead of double sided
ones as I also like my dvd`s to have some form of disc art.
Anyway, here are some details on the R2 release.....

RE: LOTR:TT:Ex - Anybody noticed they cleaned up the scene where...

Good point, tripodjw.
I also thought that the scenes where Treebeared was carrying Merry
and Pippin looked a lot more realistic on the small screen.

RE: Who`s bought a film for the packaging....?

Hey, c`mon now lads, cut out the squabling ;)
Anyway, back to the thread,
I bought the R1 version of the extended editions of both
FOTR and TTT simply because of the better packaging
which is much more sturdy than the UK R2`s.
I also got the Japanese copy of X-Men 2 because I prefered
the cover art.
If the differences regarding the film itself are negligible, then I
usually go for the one with the better packaging whatever the
Region.

RE: QUEEN VIDEO HITS 2 DVD

Brian May has stated that they are already working
on the next album to be re-mixed into surround sound.
He wouldn`t say which one though - who knows, it could
be Sheer heart attack!
I think most of Queen`s back catalogue will get the treatment
over the next few years and I, for one, can`t wait!

RE: QUEEN VIDEO HITS 2 DVD

handsome.b.wonderful, the dvd-audio version of ANATO does
sound a lot better than the dts track BUT the dts track on The Game
sounds better to me (and others I might add) than the dvd-audio track.
Regarding the 4 tracks from The Game that are already on Hits 1,
they have spent a bit more time doing the surround mixes for the
dvd-audio disc and it shows. For a start, they are full 5.1 mixes instead
of the 4.1 versions on Hits 1 - the centre channel isn`t utilised on most of
the tracks on Hits 1 ( and none of the tracks use the centre channel on
Hits 2 although they still sound great), the sound quality of the dts
track is better and the surround channels are more pronounced.
The opening 3 tracks on The Game (The Game, Another one bite`s the dust
and Dragon Attack) have to be heared to be beleived - they are that good and
of all the dvd-audio discs I have, this is the one that I use to impress all my mates.
If you get The Game and do a back to back comparison with the same tracks on
Hits 1 you`ll see what I mean.
denon,
Sheer heart attack isn`t available with a dts track yet.

RE: QUEEN VIDEO HITS 2 DVD

If you enjoyed ANATO, then get The Game dvd-audio.
The dts sound on that album is even better again!

RE: QUEEN VIDEO HITS 2 DVD

If you enjoyed the first, then you WILL enjoy vol.2.
The sound is every bit as good as vol.1 (to me, some of the
tracks are even better - they have done an excellent job with
the surround mixes).
As phelings pointed out, the video`s are a mixed bag but the picture
quality is much better than vol.1 even though they have, once again, cropped some
of them to widescreen.
The extras are excellent though. If you like Queen, then you must get this.

RE: What is the best JFK to get?

After watching tonight`s documentary on JFK`s assasination,
if it`s fiction you want then go ahead and buy Oliver Stone`s dvd ;)

RE: Queens Greatest Hits Vol 2 - now in stock at Play

Did you notice that all the songs were in 4.1 and not 5.1?
The centre channel wasn`t utilised at all.
Apparantly, Brian May and Justin Shirley Smith prefered the
vocals spread over the front soundstage rather than using the
centre channel - they said it sounded more natural.
They used the centre channel for vocals on "The Game" dvd-audio
and there was nothing "unnatural" about that. In fact, I`d say "The Game"
is one of the best sounding dts music discs that i`ve heard !
Anyway, who am I to argue - they obviously made the decision on what they thought
sounded best.
I agree with you handsome.b.wonderful. Another excellently produced surround mix
and, although some of the videos were far from perfect, they were still a huge improvement on the GVH 1.

RE: x-men 2 release 10 Nov 02

If you find it hard to wait untill November, the Japanese
version (R2 but ntsc) is released on Sept. 12th.
It looks like a single disc edition but it does have an
English DTS soundtrack.
It will set you back about £25 which includes standard
AirMail shipping.
You can get it here.....

RE: Two Towers Gift Set - R1 for under £40?

Although I won`t be getting the collector`s box, I will
be getting the EE. The region of my choice will be R1
because of two reasons.....
1. The sound won`t need to have any form of pitch correction applied
(which the R2 version of the FOTR has),
2. The packaging is far superior.
The pal picture on FOTR is better than the ntsc imo, but the soundtrack
on these films is more important to me. After the negative comments made about the
pitch correction on the R2/R4 versions of Fellowship, I hope that they do a better job
on TTT as the picture quality will, no doubt, be excellent.
Even if the sound is of an equal standard i`ll still be getting the R1 as per reason 2.

RE: Help & Advice needed please on LOTR: The Two Towers Extended Edition...

Here is a review from an Aussie site regarding the R4 version of FOTR.
I don`t know if the same problems with the sound are on both R2 and R4
but as they are both pal and have been subjected to the same pitch correction
then I would imagine that they are identical.
I have the R1 discs and I have to say that the dts soundtrack is fantastic -
better than the dolby digital one - and not just because it is louder!
Anyway sj, here is that excellent review for you but, as chewie has pointed
out, you have been warned.......

RE: What films utilise 5.1 fully?

Of the newer releases, get Daredevil - absolutely superb
sound design.

Daredevil

I didn`t watch this in the cinema as it didn`t appeal to me but my
mate persuaded me to get it on dvd as he said that he really enjoyed
it. Anyway, I ordered the R4 version which I got round to watching last
night and I have to admit I was pleasently surprised. Good back story,
not bad sfx and an excellent OTT performance by Colin Farrell as
Bullseye.
The reason I am posting this thread though is to let you know that
this dvd contains one of the best dts 5.1 mixes I`ve heared in quite
a while. The sound design is absolutely tremendous and the quality
of the dts mix is at times amazing. There isn`t a minute that goes by
without the rear channels being utilised in one way or another and
the LFE is a joy. This is one aggressive mix!
Although I didn`t listen to the Dolby Digital version in full, I did compare
a couple of scenes and found it to be lacking the wow factor that the dts
has. It still sounded good but a little muffled.
The picture quality was top notch too. With most of the scenes shot in
the dark, the detail was excellent and I didn`t notice any artefacting or
edge enhancement.
But it`s the demo quality dts soundtrack that stands out on this dvd.
Great stuff !

RE: where can i get loads of dvd cases????

You could also try here......

I`ve ordered from them before and they are very quick with
their delivery times.

RE: Desperado: Collector`s Edition (R2)...coming this September!

The commentary will be a nice addition but with the limited amount of extras on this new version I won`t be rushing
out to get it as I already have the R2 superbit disc of Desperado
which, IMO, has an absolutely superb picture and a DTS
soundtrack to die for.
When is "Once upon a time in Mexico" out in the cinema?
Is this dvd a tie-in with the movies release?

RE: Saving Private Ryan DTS Version R2

When I can be bothered, I will update my profile to include
my new set-up.
Having listened to a lot more soundtracks since I originally
posted my profile, there are a lot of discs where the dts
version isn`t any better than the dd one ( and quite a few
where the dd outshines the dts ).
As for SPR though, the dts track IS considerably better than
the dd - at least on the R1 version. I did do a comparison
as my mate had the dolby one so I`m not being biased in the least
( unlike some dts fans who think that every dts track is better
than the dd ).
I still consider myself to be a dts freak but thats only because
most of the best soundtracks I have on dvd happen to be dts -
especially when it comes to music!

RE: Saving Private Ryan DTS Version R2

If it`s the same as the R1 dts version then YES!
There are quite a few discs around where the dts and dd
soundtracks are too similar to make a constructive comparison
but in the case of Saving Private Ryan the dts track wins easily.
Although it isn`t a full bit-rate dts track, it most certainly is one
of the best dts soundtracks you`ll ever hear.
When it comes out, get it. You won`t be sorry I promise you.

RE: DTS recommendations please ??!!

If you like your BASS then get The Haunting Signature collection
Dts Region 1. I`ve yet to experience bass as powerfull as this on
dvd.
