Tom and Jerry Collectors` Edition Censored

F@###@@######%%%&&~~####@~#ers!

An early review for the first of this series of releases is indicating that the cartoons contained are the politically-correct versions currently being shown on Boomerang and other bargain-basement cable channels. Yes, some sensitive soul has gone through every cartoon, cutting anything that might offend - not least the voice of the cook (who spent most of her time balanced on a stool). To add insult to injury, the review copy described only contained half the material advertised in Warners` PR copy.

I`m disgusted.

Do not be alarmed. That strange sound is simply
my mind boggling.

Just cancelled my order.
If Warners are happy to release uncensored versions of old (and possibly by todays standards offensive) material in the Looney Tunes Collection, why not MGM ?
I hope the intended War Time Disney collection in the Treasures series is as un cut as it says it is.

If so, and I really hope we are or I`ll look a right dick (!), what exactly have they cut? Headbutts? Nunchukas?

Christ on a bike - this country is very very strange.......

I`ve stopped watching old cartoons completely now.

I once tuned into some Looney Tunes on BBC, and found that not only were they shown in a cropped 14:9 ratio opposed to the original 4:3, but they were shredded into incomprehensibilty by the PC brigade. Any scene of excessive and malicious violence is now trimmed to protect the sensibilities of the wee vunerable youth. Let`s face it, all cartoons are about excessive malicious violence.

When a cannon is fired point blank in someone`s face, dammit his eyeballs should remain floating in mid air for a second, before dropping to the sound of a xylophone.

Mark my words, they`ll be picking on Laurel and Hardy next. :(

Was the review on DVD Times? As the reviewer, Michael Mackenzie, shared exactly the same sentiments - and gave the disc a 0 for content.

Is this R2 or R1? If it`s R1 then that is worrying. I haven`t bought the R2 Looney Tunes boxset out of HMV because it`s missing some material. Should I go for the R1 of that?

Damn right Jitender! And if you`re hit with an iron, godammit, then your face should take on the characteristics of an iron. It`s just common sense...

Hopefully the p*ss poor sales of the discs will give them pause for thought. Why I oughta blow them up with a stick of dynamite so their smiling teeth tinkle out to the sound of a glockenspeil! >:(

Yes, I was going off Michael McKenzie`s review over at DVDTimes. The cartoons were edited and redubbed for the modern sensibilities of specifically Cartoon Network (the anti-Christ of animation). It would appear that in their wisdom, the current copyright holders Warner (via Ted Turner, the man who brought us Colorisation) have decided that the sanitised versions are the only versions to be seen in future.

There is talk of a four disc R1 version of the collection later in the year, and if that turns out to be a Cinephile edition of the original, uncut cartoons (which I somehow doubt), I for one am all for stringing up the Brothers Warner, and their rabbit too!
