hermy (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 7th September 2002, 22:39

Ive found out this movie is coming out to buy this month and Ive had a look around the usual sites and the features are virtually non-existent but ive just looked in the recent HMV catalogue and they will be selling a version with features only exclusive to HMV on 23rd Sept. the features are

80 min documentary
interviews
40 mins of deleted scenes
documentary on the real life legend of the beast
trailers

I would really love this version but Ican garantee they`ll sell it for £20 or more which I do not want to pay..what am I to do

French DTS 5.1 rather than Dolby 2.0
Commentaries but not subtitled so no good unless you speak french in which case you would have bought the original french release.
Possibly anamorphic whereas the hmv release doesn`t say.
DVDrom features which hopefully are region free as long as you don`t have to access them through the dvd menus (an annoying feature of shrek region1 dvd)
A longer version of the film.
I loved the film so i`ll get the most complete version available with english subtitles. Note that its available for about £20 from dvdsoon but see retailer reviews section for comments on dvdsoons reliability which is why i`ll stick to paying £26 plus a possible customs charge.

I picked up the region 3 copy of this movie, and although the picture is only 4.3 format, it is still very crisp and has a good 5.1 soundtrack.

I may pick up the special Edition but i dont usually bother with extras and according to the site i got it from the R3 version is uncut.

A question - does the canadian release have the `dubbed` soundtrack feature(as on the HMV release) and before i recieve flak yes I can watch and enjoy subtitled movies(I have a couple of Jackie chan movies subtitled) but I share the house with my brother and he wants to see but I dont think he will watch it with subtitles, like my mother says when she saw me watching the subtitled ring on TV "whats that rubbish its got subtitles" this from the same woman who saw Godfather 2 on the cinema twice (a third of the movie is subtitled)

it seems like the Canadian version HAS got both soundtracks - it says so here on dvdsoon`s details

http://www.dvdsoon.com/showtitledetails.xml?uid=38723

.......just wanted to add that i`ve had no problems with dvdsoon either, I understand some people have though but I have always found my orders are sent out as they come in stock, sometimes a couple weeks before the release date. Whenever I have a query, instead of emails I call them direct (about 5-10p a minute to Canada) and have found them very friendly and helpful.

Of course if you`ve had problems then you`ll have every reason to not want to use them again - I would be the same.
