Page 1 of LOTR - Am I the only one???

Just watched LOTR and was not impressed at all. Yes the sound and picture were very good but the movie itself was not as gripping as I thought it would be. I managed to reach the point where the group were going to enter the mines until I had to take a 24 hour break.

Was this first film meant to be an introduction to the story and should the other films be much more interesting?

The 2nd and 3rd books are way better IMO. Much more going on. Much of book 1 could very easily be thought of as an introduction. Also takes the most amount of work to read.

I think you are the only one. I loved this movie. It was great and flawless. Entertaining from start to finish. I`ve seen it twice and will watch it many times more.

I think it was more of an introduction of the characters and the world of middle-earth rather than an all action blockbuster. I enjoyed it but certain things annoyed me such as the continuity errors and such (For instance watch the 2 statues change position as they sail through them and look back upon 2 statues with 1 facing a different direction) and the orcs running toward camera did kinda remind me of Baywatch :)
but hell, it`s 1 film in a set so give the whole trilogy a chance.

Likewise, i was not impressed with LOTR. In fact i`m struggling to remember the last time i saw such awful,mindnumbing dross. Come to think of it, i did see From Hell recently......

I thought it was pants. I have never read the books so I went to see it with an open mind.

It just seemed to drag on for ages and I couldn’t wait for it to end. In addition, the effects looked cheap ‘n’ nasty in some places.

Of course you do realise it`s a cardinal sin to criticise LOTR and/or Star Wars in this forum?

l thought it was best film of last year, the best l have seen in a long, long time.

l never read the books and thought the first trailer of the film looked a little geeky, thats to say only people who like wizards and magic would enjoy it.

Now l think it will become my favourite of all time.

I thought it was excellent (hadn`t read the books, but had read the hobbit, and I am a fantasy-nerd gimp thing). It is a lengthy film, and I suppose you do have to be in the mood for it, and take it with a pinch of salt too. It probably will make more sense as part of a trilogy (and the 15 disc mega box set (probably) due for release in 2005 will be awesome!).

LOTR is something that i`m not surprised people don`t like - it was very hyped, and loads of people were singing its praises. It`s not everyone`s cup of tea!

btw, re: Star Wars, I always remember what Mark Kermode says about it - it`s for simple minded people!

I am reading the LOTR at the moment for the first time (just got through Shalobs Lair last night!!!).

Having seen the first film before starting to read the book I thought it was excellent. Having now read the Fellowship I now realise what an utterly fantastic piece of filmaking it was. Ok, so they jumbled a few things about, compressed timelines (the walk from the Shire to Rivendell for instance took about 4 weeks in the book as opposed to a day or two in the film) and missed out a few bits (inc. T.B.) but having read it I think what they did was a major achievement. Can`t wait for the Riders of Rohan battling the Orcs in part 2, we are in for a treat!!!
