RE: Lexmark Z52

i have the smae printer that i use for basic layout and vector printing.
quite simply it`s an appaling printer of very low quality that seems to get worse over time, probably due to the ink-flow slowly clogging everything up.

help!...ideas....ideas....

Well it`s nearly that poxy time of year again. Valentines day. Which is always difficult for an unimaginative git like myself and I`m sure others, so I thought I`d consult the wealth of knowledge on this forum to get a thread of nice original ideas going to help myself and others in the same turgid boat :).
I need some kind of idea for a girl I`ve only been seeing a couple of months so nothing too lovey dovey. Money aint too big a concern though I don`t want to spunk too much.
Any ideas or comments would be hugely appreciated guys.
Thanks alot in advance. :)

RE: No, it`s alright I`ve just got something in my eye...

Only the elephant man for me (when he screams "I`m not an animal! I`m a human being!") brings a slight throaty feeling.
Apart from that I seem to be an emotionally deviod creature.

RE: About Schmidt - most disturbing film ever!?!? *spoilers*

i really enjoyed this film, it`s great to see some fine actors literally acting their age.
while redford, connery etc. have to star in films in which we have to suspend belief while they supposedly attract women young enough to be their grandaughters, it`s good to see a couple of excellent actors as bates and nicholson not afraid to appear deeply unatractive, flabby and fairly unlikeable.

RE: JUST too far away for ADSL - anyone got any top tips?

the average amount of people needed to register interest for bt to actually get their thumbs out of their arses is apparently 350.
BT are a total joke which any bt engineer or employee can verify.
While 99% of yanks have great connections and cheap isps we are goverend by bt. It`s they who overcharge the isps and it`s they who bid for useless new technology and get themselves further in debt whilst caring f***k all about their customers. Funny how no isps can do an unmetered service now that bt have decided that 150 hours a month is apparently just as good.

RE: JUST too far away for ADSL - anyone got any top tips?

I share your pain Richard H! I too am exactly the same distance as you.
I tried to sign up about a year ago and was told this. So a year down the line I thought, "Great, they must have enabled a closer exchange or gotten better radsl technology in this time surely..."
In short bt have done absolutely nothing in this area in a year, so I would`nt get any hopes up mate. It`s just a shame that this country is monopolised by such a shoddy cowboy outfit as bt. And it aint gonna improve, there so called roll-out statistics are total bulls***.

RE: Why did you choose that particualr forum name?

I know the feeling mate, I have to purposely lose at 5 card hold-em occasionally cos my mates are so bad and predictable :D
Mine comes from me needing a name when I started playing Team Fortress Classic. I was reading a book called The Watchmen by Alan Moore which had a great charachter called Rorschach, so I played as that for a while until I bumped into 2 other Rorschachs on various servers. So i just changed it to something that was the same pronunciation (near enough) and voila`!

RE: FAVOURITE TV SHOW ANYONE?

a guy called simon maccorkindale, and as far as i can remember it was only a panther he could turn into.
heres some info from a sci-fi film site;

"Privy to the secrets that "divide man from the animals," Professor Jonathan Chase (Simon MacCorkindale) metamorphosed into a variety of animal species on each episode of the police drama/fantasy MANIMAL/NBC/1983. His powers apparently came from his father, "sole heir to the secret link that binds man and animal." Working as a consultant for a special investigative unit of the New York Police Department, Professor Chase frequently transformed into a snarling black panther (actually a black leopard). Five leopards were used for the show. Owned by animal trainer Mark Harden, they included Magic, Dusty, Stormy, Stark and Ivory. Ivory was used for sitting scenes; Magic for leaping; Dusty hit the mark for the camera; Stark was a stand-in and Stormy did the snarling scenes. The cats were paid $1,000 a day"

this has got some great deals in and i think you should be able to get what you want for the price. check out www.pc-123.co.uk, they had a couple of very cheap base systems when i last looked.

RE: Favourite Movie Theme/Score?

Ahh, good call ironduke, I loved that soundtrack.
Just a pity you can`t buy the full thing on cd though.
They said on the dvd commentary that they`d never be able to afford all the rights to each track.

RE: To Chip or not to chip ?

hey kywy, techtronics.com (who i can highly recommend) will chip your player for 17 quid.
And for that they`ll pick up and return the player to your door.
Check them out, they did a great job on my sony.

RE: London Advice

thanks for posting that link cuba-boy
i`d have to agree with all the suggestions so-far just make sure you at least visit the british library housed inside the museum which is worth the trip for the sheer jaw-dropping impact of seeing the architecture and scale of it.

oh, and stringfellows, metropolis and browns ;)

RE: File extension .gho?

it`s a default extension that the program norton ghost uses, so i`m guessing that you`d need this to enable it to work.
sounds like you`re trying to copy an OS disk to me :)

RE: USA VISA - no entry for anyone whos been arreseted before!!!

Well, this does`nt in theory seem to have changed at all since my brother was worried about the same thing. I think you`re okay with a simple caution mate.
I`ve heard to the contrary before but my brother went through fine with a caution a couple of years back.
If you can apply early though in case, I`d do that

RE: Scanners remake

On the downside though, it usually eclipses the original so that people who have`nt heard of it in the first place will in future associate the remake with the name.
Example, i was astounded by the amount of people who started talking about helena bonham carter when i mentioned planet of the apes among freinds recently.
There are no remakes which i can see any point in apart from ones like Insomnia (insomnia) and Heat (LA Takedown) and the stupidity of making psycho shot-for-shot beggers belief. what next?? Blade Runner with Wil Smith???

RE: Scanners remake

"NEW YORK (Variety) - In its first substantial fright foray since "The Blair Witch Project," Artisan Pictures will remake "Scanners," the 1981 David Cronenberg thriller best remembered for its exploding head finale.

The original revolved around a scientist`s attempt to infiltrate an underground movement of "scanners," people with extraordinary telepathic abilities who are using them to take over the world. The Cronenberg-scripted film touched on paranoia and terrorism conspiracies, themes that will be amped up in the contemporized version. Also improved will be the special effects used for the signature gray-matter grenade finale.

Rights holders Pierre David and Rene Malo will produce with Clark Peterson. David ran a large indie Canadian production company that made the original film as well as the Cronenberg-directed "The Brood" and "Videodrome." Since Malo financed them, he held the rights, which explains why the writer-director wasn`t involved in the transaction.

"We were approached by Artisan just as we were about to hire a showrunner to do a TV series based on `Scanners,"` said David. "But they persuaded us the film could reach new audiences unfamiliar with the original," he explained.

"The original was more sophisticated than the slasher films coming out at that time, and it is considered something of a classic to the generation of filmmakers we will be trying to involve in the remake," said Richard Saperstein, Artisan`s president of development and production. "This kind of film is exactly what we want to do -- an elevated and stylish genre film which can be made for a reasonable budget."

Artisan will look increasingly to horror, a genre that put the film company on the map with 1999`s wildly profitable "Blair Witch," then stunted its growth when the sequel flopped the following year. Undaunted, Artisan is stirring the "Witch" cauldron with a possible third film that would be done with the original filmmakers, who didn`t take part in the sequel. "
