Page 1 of Philips Energy Saving LightBulbs 5 for £1.00 in Sainsburys

Saw these on offer yesterday but didn`t get chance to have a good look at the offer.

There was a huge box/pallet of the normal bayonett cap 11w ones (60w equiv), not sure if other sizes/fittings are included in the deal.

We have these dotted about the house.

We paid something like £5-7 each week to convert one room in our household over to these types of bulbs in the early 90`s, when they were`t quite as efficient or as bright at switch on.

When fishermen catch dolphin-friendly tuna, how do they know which tuna are being friendly to dolphins?

We have energy saving bulbs throughout the house (except the kitchen since I can`t find decent main voltage energy saving bulbs that fit into the spotlights).

They do make a difference in the long run :D

The problem I have with these energy saving bulbs is they seem to take a few minutes to reach full brightness, so they would be useless in my bathroom - I live in a house converted into 2 flats so have no window in my bathroom so by the time the bulbs reached full brightness Im gonna have been to the loo and switching it off, are they any brands that reach full brighness quicker than others? The Philips ones I have in the bedroom and front room both take a while to get fully bright.

They aren`t much use in my lounge/dining room/porch or landing either as each light fitting has 3 candle bulbs with the small edison screw fitting.

Not only would they look daft, I don`t think they make them with the small screw fitting do they?

Can you get these bulbs with a screw fitting? I`ve got them everywhere else.

I have seen them with the standard Edison screw, alas only at 240V, usually from a small specialist lighting\hardware store.

We don`t have an issue these days for maximum brightness against time against the ones we first bought 15 years ago. Pretty much 90% in the first 2 seconds, no better or worse than a flurescent tube.

The ones on offer at supermarkets always seem to be a really low wattage, or else everything on the shelf is edison screw!
I`ve found that the small 15W spirals from GE are great as replacements for 60W bulbs - same size, brighter and instant-on. Two for one at Tesco I think.

Also if you`ve got 150W bulbs in standard lamps, you can get a 30W replacement from Morrisons. Brightness seems fine after a short warm-up.

I`m still looking for properly sized candles and GU10 spot replacements which are as bright as the originals. Best I`ve found is the Megaman brand but they aren`t cheap and they are still slightly too big.

I bought a lot of 240V bathroom\kitchen ceiling lights with 3 energy saving GU10 light bulbs at £5 from B&Q. :D

Used the bulbs in the hallway (with the intended light fittings), the study & in my daughters room, price for the ceiling light kit is now £12. >:(
