I read the last Computeractive article on this where they seemed to say quite a few negative things about it and then give it the `Buy it` award - even at £150... And they really know what they`re talking about... ;)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I also picked up one of these over the weekend and first impressions were good. A couple of times this evening though the screen has gone blank on some channels and only comes back after powering the box down and back up again at the socket. Has any one else experienced problems like this? I think I read someone mentioning a similar thing on the digital spy forum. I`m going to keep an eye on this but things don`t look promising ...

I bought one of these boxes today in Argos and the blank screen was only one of the problems I had. When surfing through channels, some of the channels go blank and say `no signal` until I unplug and reconnect the box. This is very annoying and no good for timed recordings. I also missed one (timed) recording because although it had registered, the box did not record. Channel change is very sluggish compared to my old £15 `no name` Freeview box with which for more than a year I never had any problems picking up TV through my roof Arial. Another problem is that you cannot record 2 channels at the same time (although it is stated in the Argos catalo that you can). The box is also noisy and you can hear it when the room is quiet. You definitely don`t want it running throughout the night in your bedroom. When I fast forward through the ad breaks on replay, the sound and picture loose synchronicity every time (sound and picture don`t play together) until I stop and restart. This is a problem I have before only experienced on very cheap and nasty DVD player. There are too many things wrong with this box and this is why mine goes back tomorrow. Argos does not allow a return under the 30 day rule on these boxes (I wonder why? ;) but because it is misrepresented in their catalog (stating that you can do 2 recordings at the same time which is clearly not possible) I am returning mine as `not fit for the advertised purpose`. I want a more reliable solution and I am prepared to spend a little more to get that. I had a look at the specs of the Evesham £99 Freeview recorder. Looks good but I need to get some more info before I order.

Hi..

I picked this up a week ago

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321227/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500006565.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D1500006656.Digital%2BTV%2Band%2Bfreeview%3EC%24cip%3D1500006659.Digital%2BTV%2Brecorders.htm

It`s £99.99, 160gb HDD, you can record 2 channels at once, has the "series link" option & is very well built...My mate has also brought this & is well pleased with it!

You also get a free 30 day trial for "Top up TV" included in the box.

Another option maybe?

Cheers,
Mark :)
