BA (30/06/05): Wide range of cheap Orange & O2 contract deals from One Stop Phone Shop

Reestit Mutton (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 30th June 2005, 09:03

One Stop Phone Shop are currently offering a wide range of handsets on Orange and O2 contracts with crazy amounts of cashback. I suspect that this is an attempt to drum up sales in the run up to month end (in order to meet network-imposed sales targets) so I don`t expect these offeres to last beyond the end of today.

There are just far too many offers to do justice to them in a single post on this forum so I`ve put together FIVE separate articles on my website which cover the most noteworthy deals available.

However, for your convenience, here`s a very brief summary of the best of what`s highlighted on my site (MTC = [M]inimum [T]erm [C]ost):

SE T290i, SE K300i, Nokia 6610i, Samsung E330 from NIL MTC
Motorola V545 from £36 MTC
Samsung E630 from £36 MTC
Nokia 6230i (replacement for 6230) from £80 MTC
SPV C550 (replacement for C500) from £86 MTC
Sony K750i (replacement for K700i) from £96 MTC
Samsung E720 from £118 MTC
Motorola V3 from £120 MTC

If you`re interested in any of the above prices the full details, along with further bargains, can be found here:

Great deals but one query I have with all these cashbacks which no-one seems to have thought about is this: At the end of 12 months you need to send off the 12 months bill to get the final cashback (in the case of most 12 month contract deals). But if you disconnect after 12 months will you get that final chequeback for an account that would be inactive? Otherwise you will need to stay connected, possibly until the final chequeback comes though, and pay at least another full month line rental whilst it is being dealt with....therefore pushing the overall cost up. Or is this not the case? Also, networks often specify that you may also have to put 30 days notice to disconnect which then could take it into the 13th month, again billed for and which would push up the overall price. Be interested to hear from anyone with experience of this situation.

Yes, I went for the K750i for myself and the K300i (free) for my wife. Thanks to RM for the tip-off.
Ordered Thu 30th June in evening, mine turned up Saturday 2nd in the morning. No sign of wife`s, though. Web site said "Awaiting connection to network; being picked" or simothing similar. Chased via email and phone and was promised by the follwing weekend (9th/10th). No sign again. Chased by phone again and this time rather than the generic response, got through to another section who said that it looked like the order had stalled on the system for some reason - they pushed it through and guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next day. It arrived as promised!!

I suggest you check the status on the web and also phone up to chase (0845 number). It may have gone te same way as my wif`e`s order.

Once again, thanks to RM for the tip.

Only one downside, very patchy Orange coverage in my village (despite what the Orange web site says). :( .

A lot of people have thought about these cashbacks - I just haven`t seen a lot of discussion about them on this forum. There is loads on the rpoints forum.
The two min term £0 Orange contracts that I have from the OSPS require me to send the 4th/8th and 12th month bills to them within about 20 days of receiving them along with a voucher that was issued to me when I took out the contracts (no replacements will be given).
If you specify that you want to end the contract when you get your 11th bill then that will still cause you to get a 12th month bill that is suitable for redemption.
The main pitfalls of these schemes are:
1. forgetting to return the correct paperwork on time
2. losing the vouchers
3. the company going bust.
4. going over your allotted minutes (that won`t get refunded)
No.3 is important because what you are actually taking out is a standard contract with the network and a cash back contract with the vendor. OSPS are owned by Carphone Warehouse so I doubt we`ll see them go under but you might want to check out some of the other vendors (search for web discussion and do a whois on their website if there is none at the very least.).
OSPS tend to be slow at getting the cash back to you but they do seem to be doing it.

Good luck,
M

Just off the phone from them there. They are still out of stock, expecting a delivery this week and I should have the phone next week. I`m not holding my breath though. Keep me updated KaTz if you have any progress. Thanks.
